In the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams in 1931, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth.[1] Although the phrase has been used previously by Western journalists and scholars,[82][83] a translation of a New York Times article written by the American journalist Thomas Friedman, "China Needs Its Own Dream", has been credited with popularizing the concept in China.[83] He attributes the term to Peggy Liu and the environmental NGO JUCCCE's China Dream project,[84][85] which defines the Chinese Dream as sustainable development.[85] In 2013, China's new paramount leader Xi Jinping began promoting the phrase as a slogan, leading to its widespread use in the Chinese media.[86]	./cache/en-wikipedia-org-548.html	./txt/en-wikipedia-org-548.txt
