To be included, studies must report on parental substance misuse that meets one of the following criteria: a pattern of alcohol consumption that leads to the presence of physical or psychological problems (typically over 35 units per week for women and over 50 units per week for men); frequent illicit drug misuse (more than once per month as defined by the Crime Survey for England and Wales); and alcohol or illicit drug abuse defined as a maladaptive pattern of drinking/drug use, leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as manifested by at least one related problem in a 12-month period (failure to fulfill major role obligations, use in situations in which it is physically hazardous, alcohol or drug-related legal problems, having persistent or recurrent social or interpersonal problems caused or exacerbated by the effects of alcohol or drugs; American Psychiatric Association, 2013).	./cache/cord-011503-bz6iwfan.txt	./txt/cord-011503-bz6iwfan.txt
