The aim of this study was to investigate the role of different respiratory viruses in the severity of outcomes among patients admitted to an adult tertiary teaching hospital in Perth, Western Australia. This study is one of the few to undertake a detailed comparison of admissions and clinical outcomes of the individual influenza virus types and subtypes and the non-influenza viruses in hospitalised adults.
