The late Republic saw a decline in the Senate's power, which began following the reforms of the tribunes Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus. Senate of the Roman Empire[edit] During the reigns of the first emperors, legislative, judicial, and electoral powers were all transferred from the Roman assemblies to the senate.
