Acts especially upon the portion of the sympathetic nervous system which presides over the action of the heart and arteries, the base of the brain, powerful effect, irritating the filaments of that portion of the nerve which is distributed to the stomach and lungs, so as to produce violent nausea and Digitalis acts especially upon the muscular tissue of the heart and arteries, paralyzing their action to a great degree. P.
