Phylogenetic analysis of avian infectious bronchitis virus strains isolated in Japan 2004-07-15 .txt text/plain 2367 137 50 title: Phylogenetic analysis of avian infectious bronchitis virus strains isolated in Japan To define the origin and evolution of recent avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) in Japan, a genetic analysis was performed. By phylogenetic analysis based on the S1 gene including the sequence of the hypervariable regions, IBV isolates in Japan were classified into five genetic groups, which included two already-known groups (Mass and Gray). In this study, to define the origin and evolution of recent IBV in Japan, we determined the nucleotide sequences of IBV isolated in Japan using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method coupled with direct sequencing, and analyzed the sequences phylogenetically with viruses isolated in other countries. By phylogenetic analysis, the IBV isolates in Japan used in this study were divided into five genetic groups (Fig. 1 ).
