Over the past two months, the HIV database team at Los Alamos National Laboratory has turned to developing an analysis pipeline to track in real time the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike (S) protein in the COVID-19 pandemic, using the Global Initiative for Sharing All Influenza Data GISAID SARS-CoV-2 sequence database as our baseline (Sup. Item 1 is the GISAID acknowledgments table, listing all the groups who contribute sequences to this global effort) (Elbe and Buckland-Merrett, 2017; Shu and McCauley, 2017) .
