Our experience suggests that BSL-3 laboratory operating principles should be among the special requirements for performing autopsies of contaminated bodies and that they can safeguard the clinicians and the environment involved in these procedures. According to the guidelines of World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, SARS-CoV fulfills the criteria for a biohazard group 3 pathogen. The biosafety of our BSL-3 autopsy laboratory has been ensured in 4 ways: through the design of the facility, use of PPE, decontamination, and administrative regulation.
