en-wikipedia-org-6594		Ernest Renan - Wikipedia			.html	text/html	7071	897	70	Joseph Ernest Renan (French: [ʁənɑ̃]; 27 February 1823 – 2 October 1892)[2] was a French Orientalist and Semitic scholar, expert of Semitic languages and civilizations, historian of religion, philologist, philosopher, biblical scholar and critic.[3] A racist who believed in the superiority of White Europeans over all other people, he also wrote influential and pioneering historical works on the origins of early Christianity,[3] and espoused popular political theories especially concerning nationalism and national identity. At sixty years of age, having finished the Origins of Christianity, he began his History of Israel, based on a lifelong study of the Old Testament and on the Corpus Inscriptionum Semiticarum, published by the Académie des Inscriptions under Renan's direction from the year 1881 till the end of his life.
