Prospective assessment of the effect of COVID-19-related mental health effects in children and adolescents is needed. Although measures that aim for "social distancing" are important to protect the health of our society, political decision makers have to keep in mind that it does not come without side effects and that children, adolescents and their families bear a major burden of these measures. Likewise, in the current situation, risk-benefit analyses are urgently needed based on the effects of "social distancing" including importantly for children and adolescents school closures.
