The effectiveness of the intervention therefore is determined by the probability of diagnosis per day of the infectious period, the time needed to identify contacts of the close contact and casual contact ring, the vaccination coverage in the close contact and the casual contact ring, and whether contacts are monitored. Our simulation results show that a smallpox epidemic starting from a small number of index cases can be contained by ring vaccination provided the intervention measures are very effective. Here the critical vaccination coverage in the casual contact ring is shown as a function of the basic reproduction number R 0 for different assumptions about the time it takes to diagnose infectious persons. ./cache/cord-286070-qwq46b8a.txt ./txt/cord-286070-qwq46b8a.txt
