In recent case series, elevated D-dimer levels were reported in 43% 6 of the patients and were associated with disease severity and increased mortality. 5 Findings that shed new light on the possible pathogenesis of a disease or an adverse effect Several case series exist which explore the incidence of venous and arterial thrombosis in patients with COVID-19. 10 The latter includes a study of 10 ICU patients with COVID-19 pneumonia in whom D-dimer levels and viscoelastic measures reduced in response to increased prophylactic dosing.
