Additionally, pharmacy managers determined that in the event the hospital reached maximum capacity, this arrangement would allow for expansion of staff resources beyond the initial FH staffing model. Patient-specific medications needed outside of this time frame were delivered by a courier service and received by the on-site pharmacist or a charge nurse if delivered outside of first-shift hours. The staffing model, policies, and procedures described here allowed for the successful integration of pharmacy services into FH operations during a surge in COVID-19 cases.
