If it were only a matter of metabolic control, the COVID-19 disease would not be different from previous viral SARS epidemics, in which diabetes was a risk factor for bad prognosis [6] . However, in these studies [1, 4, 5] , body mass index (BMI) is not considered; when investigated, obesity was more prevalent than diabetes [7] , and increasing evidence shows that obesity is itself a bad prognostic factor as to admission to intensive care units, invasive ventilation, and death [8, 9] .
