Importantly, the exportation risk of the disease from some airports in China, Iran, and European countries has a higher global spread than the importation risk during the pandemic stage. Therefore, the most important contribution of this study is its assessment of both importation and exportation risk of COVID-19 spread via air travel from/to world airports based on the confirmed disease, air travel, and population data. The risks of importation and exportation of COVID-19 were calculated based on origin-destination (OD) annual air travel flows (Fig. 1) .
