Results: CGRP levels greatly decreased in COVID-19 patients (p<0.001) when compared to controls, and there were no significant differences due to disease severity, sex, age, or comorbidities. When separated by disease severity, the three COVID-19 groups displayed significantly lower levels of CGRP when compared to healthy controls, but there were no significant differences among disease groups (Fig. 1A) . This result may explain the higher expression of RAMP1 that was found in COVID-19 lung samples using multiplex gene expression analysis 6 is the author/funder, who has granted medRxiv a license to display the preprint in (which was not certified by peer review) preprint ./cache/cord-290938-v7giuq53.txt ./txt/cord-290938-v7giuq53.txt
