Though we are still learning what exactly puts someone at greater risk of developing a severe illness with COVID-19, early information indicates older patients and those with chronic medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and cardio-cerebrovascular diseases may be at higher risk (1) (2) (3) . We need to develop a hypothesis to explain the causal path underlying the more severe clinical presentation of COVID-19 infection and subsequent death in diabetic patients. One such approach is the use of inhibitors of the renin angiotensin system, namely ACE inhibitors and ARBs. On the other hand, some concern has been raised about the fact that patients on these agents might be at an increased risk of infection by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV-2).
