However, there is a growing body of studies in which SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected in stool samples (including anal swabs) from COVID-19 patients. 11, 15, 16 This study aims to (1) critically assess the clinical relevance of testing stool samples and anal swabs and (2) provide a critical overview of the available literature regarding the faecal-oral transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
