While keeping up with scientific developments is challenging also under normal circumstances, the combination of uncertainties in dealing with a novel virus and a huge outpour of research papers dealing with COVID-19, many of them not peer-reviewed, made it particularly challenging to provide evidence-informed guidance, either to the public, health services or policymakers. In addition, systematic reviews on COVID-19-related topics were likely to become rapidly outdated, given the large number of new study reports published daily. Being a national public health institute with responsibilities for infectious diseases prevention and response, as well as having the role as the national centre for evidence-based healthcare, meant that the competence and tools to develop the rapid reviews were available within the organisation. ./cache/cord-327652-tn29r8lj.txt ./txt/cord-327652-tn29r8lj.txt
