We clinically and virologically assessed the effect of early treatmentwith leukocyte interferon (Cantellvariety) [13] on the initial episode of' genital herpes.Weindirectly evaluated the effect of .interferon on latency by determining the incidence and frequency of both asymptomatic reactivations and symptomatic recurrences during an intensive one-year follow-up period.
