IL-1β secretion further enhances the production and release of IL-23 and IL-6 and the association of IL-18, IL-1β, and IL-23 stimulate Th17/γδ T cells to generate pro-inflammatory cytokines (GM-CSF, IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-22,) that create the stage for host adaptive immune responses during DENV infection (Wu et al., 2013a) . Another study demonstrated that DENV infects DC and induces NLRP3 inflammasome activation, triggering ROS production in mitochondria that leads to the discharge of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) into the cytosol.
