In a similar study using essentially the same system at another regional blood center, Cumming et al 24 found that with a combination of FTFI and WSAQ, the rate of deferrals of first-time donors for high-risk behavior was 5.8 per 1000, whereas after installation of an AVT-CASI system the rate increased to 11.2 per 1000, a 93% increase.
