In this study, we confirmed that PHEV infection induces atypical autophagy and leads to the accumulation of autophagosomes while blocking their fusion with lysosomes, which creates conditions for the virus to replicate within nerve cells. In order to examine whether the autophagy is associated with viral replication in PHEV infection, we performed subcellular localization of viral proteins and LC3 or LAMP on PHEVinfected cells for the first time.
