The aim of the present study was to describe the role of human metapneumovirus and other common respiratory viruses including: influenza virus A, B, and C, parainfluenza 1-4 viruses, adenoviruses, respiratory syncytial virus A and B, rhinovirus, coronavirus 229E and OC43 and enterovirus as bronchiolitis, and bronchopneumonia pathogens among hospitalized children younger than 1 year, taking into account that in this age group respiratory viruses are the main etiological agents of lower respiratory tract infections [Shay et al., 1999; Smyth and Openshaw, 2006; Bush and Thomson, 2007] .
