Longitudinal changes in well-being of parents of individuals with developmental or mental health problems 2020-08-21 .txt text/plain 7304 348 52 The current study examines (1) longitudinal changes in the effect of having a child with a developmental or mental health problem on parental negative affect, psychological well-being, and somatic symptoms, (2) age and gender moderations on these effects, and (3) the unique impact of factors related to the child's condition. Additionally, among those with children with developmental or mental health problems, older parental age of onset of the child's condition was protective of parental well-being, and longer duration of the child's condition also predicted better health outcomes, suggesting that parents may adapt to the stress of their caregiving role over time. Having a child with a developmental or mental health problem will predict higher negative affect, lower psychological well-being, and a greater number of somatic symptoms, at both a baseline time point and a 10-year follow-up, compared to parents of children without these problems. ./cache/cord-259694-8uv291b5.txt ./txt/cord-259694-8uv291b5.txt
