Furthermore, eigenvalue algorithms typically require the full matrix to be stored in the random-access memory of the computer, which can be infeasible for massive social contact networks which are too large to be stored. However, in the context of epidemic thresholds, we are interested in the random variable λ(A) itself, as we want to study the contagion spread conditional on a given social contact network. In this work, we investigated the problem of computing SIR epidemic thresholds of social contact networks from the perspective of statistical inference.
