Although the conclusion that pharmacological inhibition of TNF-a represents an attractive strategy to control hepatitis-D-induced acute liver damage is premature, the findings are innovative and substantially contribute to our understanding of the immunology of hepatitis-D-related disease, which should allow further exploration of the manipulation of these pathways in the quest for an effective treatment.
