This review presents the current knowledge of the main structural characteristics of legume lectins and the relationship of structure to the exhibited specificities; provides an overview of their particular antimicrobial; insecticidal and antitumor biological activities and describes possible applications based on the pattern of recognized glyco-targets. The isolation and purification of lectins from seeds of native plants such as Parkinsonia aculeata, Olneya tesota, Acacia constricta, Prosopis juliflora, Cercidium praecox, Caesalpinia caladenia and Phaseolus acutifolius has been described. Purification and characterization of complex carbohydrate specific isolectins from wild legume seeds: Acacia constricta is (vinorama) highly homologous to Phaseolus Vulgaris lectins ./cache/cord-323768-r7jbm1et.txt ./txt/cord-323768-r7jbm1et.txt
