Of 4696 infants and children with acute lower respiratory tract disease admitted to the Cook County Hospital, 2530 were tested for virus infection by virus isolation or serologic procedures or both. This report describes the periodic pattern of RSV infection in infants and children with lower respiratory tract disease admitted to the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, between January 1, 1967 and December 31, 1971. The study group comprised infants and children younger than 18 months of age admitted to the Cook County Hospital because of acute lower respiratory tract disease.
