The aim of the study reported here was to determine the circulation of 2009 pandemic influenza A/H1N1 virus (H1N1pdm09) by molecular methods and to identify the causative viruses, the incidence and the clinical features of acute respiratory illness among infants and young children at sentinel sites in Bangui and three rural areas. All infants and children aged between 0-15 years who attended sentinel sites in Bangui and three rural areas ( Figure 1 ) for influenza-like illness (ILI) or severe acute respiratory illness between January and December 2010 were included in the study (Figure 2A ).
