Each work of art or visual symbol used in the genre of landscape has its own interpretation and is associated with its own meaning (see Petrenko & Korotchenko, 2008). From the perspective of psychology, the words that constitute a metaphorical pair are connotative (semantic) synonyms – for example, in Metaphor and metonymy are used by a number of well-known researchers in semiotics and cultural studies of visual arts like fi lm (Arutyunova, 1979, 1990; Ivanov, 1973, 1981, 1998; Lotman, 1973; Shklovsky, of their diff erent representations – that is, both visual and verbal metaphors are two ways of expressing the same meaning.
