Perreault spent at UA, w h ere he served at times as director and professor of bibliography. Perreault is the author of n u ­ m erous publications in classification, includ­ ing In tro d u ctio n to U.D.C. and Idea o f Or­ der in Bibliography. As the first chair of the Council of Librarians of the Alabama Com­ m issio n o n H ig h e r E d u c a tio n , P e rre a u lt guided the form ulation of academ ic library standards in the state. His extensive w ork with archives contributed to his identification of a 1481 Nicholas Jensen imprint while at the Mil­ w aukee Public Library, as well as the discov­ ery at the UAH Library of a volum e pam ­ p h le ts c o lle c te d a n d b o u n d by T hom as Jefferson for his ow n library, sold to the Li­ brary of Congress in 1815, and subsequently lost. L ou is H e n r y S ilv e r s te in , w h o was a librar­ ian at the Yale University Library for 33 years w hen he retired in 1996, died July 5. Silverstein was a cataloger w hen first joined Yale in 1963, and in 1970 he becam e head of the Reclassi­ fication Division and supervised the reclassi­ fication and re-cataloging of titles in CCL, SML Reference and Bibliography, BRBL Reference, and SSL. Four years later, he returned to rare book cataloging w here as principal cataloger, he focused mostly on original cataloging of English titles for Beineicke Library. In 1991, Silverstein cut back on part of his cataloging assignm ent to becom e curator of the Arts of the Book Collection.
