ACRL News Issue (B) of College & Research Libraries 115 Personnel P R O F IL E W. Carl Jackson has assumed the position of dean, University Libraries at Indiana Univer sity effective the first of this year. Mr. Jackson comes to Indiana after seven years as director of libraries at Penn State. While there, he doubled the book collections, worked for and achieved faculty status for li brarians, and oversaw the building of a dozen new libraries on various campuses. In 1972, he received the Distinguished Service Award for the Pennsylvania Library Association. Prior to Penn State he worked at the Universities of Tennessee, Iowa, Minnesota, and Colorado. At Indiana Mr. Jackson intends to focus par ticularly on greater staff participation in policy making, along with developing the recently achieved academic status there. At the same time, he will try to develop the concept of a unified “system” at the multicampus university, and pay particular attention to automation plans. Mr. Jackson replaces Dr. Robert A. Miller, who retired from administration to teach at In diana’s Graduate Library School. * * * Also joining the Indiana Graduate Library School faculty will be D avid Kaser, director of libraries at Cornell University since 1968, who will be leaving his present position at the end of this summer. Long a professional leader, ac tive in ALA, and a former editor of College and Research Libraries, Mr. Kaser will primarily be engaged in research at Indiana. NEWLY AVAILABLE IN REPRINT… One of the World’s Great Collections of Church Music KARL PROSKE MUSICA DIVINA AND SELECTUS NOVUS MISSARUM Johnson Reprint Corporation, with the cooperation of the original publisher and several European libraries, has succeeded after much effort in assembling complete sets of Musica divina and Selectus novus missarum suitable for reproduction. We are now proud to offer an exact, full-sized reprint of these two sets, both of great value to music scholarship and extremely difficult to obtain in the original edition. Beginning in 1834, Karl Proske collected, copied, and transcribed thousands of sacred compositions by the masters of classical polyphony. His magnificent library, which to this day remains a rich quarry for scholars, forms the basis of these two sets of volumes, which contain transcriptions of a great number of works by such composers as Palestrina, Lassus, Vittoria, Andrea Gabrieli, Fux, Vecchi, and Alessandro Scarlatti—many of them unavailable in any other modern transcription. Musica divina and Selectus novus missarum also contain Proske’s many valuable prefaces, annotations, and biographical notes. The reprint edition includes a valuable new introduction by Paul Henry Lang, editor of Musical Quarterly and author of Music in Western Civilization. Karl Proske, ed. MUSICA DIVINA.
