social issues?

ACRL’s Social Issues Task Force, established 
by President Anne Beaubien to prepare a set of 
recommendations “to guide ACRL on response 
(or non-response) to social issues” would like to 
hear from ACRL members. Take a moment to 
express your opinion on whether or not A CRL 
should respond as a professional association to 
social issues and give your reasons for this belief. 
Y our statement will be o f significant importance 
in the task force’s deliberations. Comments 
should be sent by January 17, 1992, to: Betsy

The task force was formed in response to the 
controversy surrounding the A CRL Board’s de­
cision to move the ACRL National Conference 
from Arizona to Utah. Recommendations from 
the task force are due to the ACRL Board at the 
1992 Annual Conference in San Francisco.

to Make Your Professionals More Professional: 
Establishing and Nurturing a Professional De­
velopment Program,” on Sunday, January 26, 
1992, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at ALA Midwinter, 
San Antonio, Texas.

Geraldine King, associate director, Ramsey 
County Public Library, Roseville, Minnesota, 
and Ilene Rockman, interim associate dean of 
library services, California State Polytechnic 
University, San Luis Obispo, will give brief 
presentations.

Topics to be covered are: professional devel­
opment by committee, every employee atrainer, 
the utilization of local talent, and professional 
development as a shared responsibility between 
administrators and librarians. Following the 
speakers, there will be a discussion period.
