Donald Goldsmith, a world-renowned authority on astrophysics and a popularizer of science with 20 books devoted to the subject of the Cosmos, will explore all facets of the accelerating universe at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 (Thursday) in Room 102 DeBartolo Hall at the University of Notre Dame.p. Goldsmith anticipated the revelation that the universe is dominated by a “dark energy” in his 1995 book “Einsteins Greatest Blunder?” and went on to document the discovery of acceleration in his 2001 work “Runaway Universe.”p. Famous for his engaging style, Goldsmith also has participated in the making of the PBS television series “Cosmos” and “The Astronomers,” as well as the NOVA television program “Is Anybody Out There?” with Lily Tomlin.p. Prior to the lecture, there will be a book signing from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. in front of 102 DeBartolo Hall. Goldsmith will be introducing his new book, titled “Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution,” co-authored with Neil Tyson, director of New Yorks Hayden Planetarium.p.
