          The customized Indiana license plate for the University of Notre Dame has been redesigned to feature an interlocking ND inside an outline of the University’s famed golden dome.p. Joshua Rich, a 2002 Notre Dame honors graduate in fine arts from DeKalb, Ill., created the new design as part of a project in a course taught by Robert Sedlack, assistant professor of art, art history and design. The previous plate featured simply an interlocking ND.p. Indiana motorists can apply for a Notre Dame license plate through the University’s Alumni Association. A $25 donation to the University is required for each plate, and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles charges a $12 processing fee, in addition to the excise tax, for all special order plates.p. License plate donations are used to support Notre Dame’s Alumni Community Service Program, which sponsors a wide array of initiatives locally, statewide and across the country through the University’s network of more than 200 alumni clubs.p. Notre Dame is one of 44 not-for-profit organizations involved in the state’s Special Group Recognition License Plate program. The “Kids First” plate in support of children’s issues in Indiana is the most popular specialty plate. In addition to Notre Dame, other popular plates support education, the environment, military veterans, and Indiana and Purdue Universities.p. Six other states&# Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia ? also offer customized Notre D151ame license plates.p.
