Titled “Be the Change,” the conference is organized by Notre Dame students under the sponsorship of the University’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies.p. Syndicated newspaper columnist Colman McCarthy will open the conference with a keynote address at 7 p.m. Friday in Jordan Auditorium of the Mendoza College of Business. An editorial page reporter for the Washington Post, McCarthy teaches at Georgetown University and is the founder of the Center for Teaching Peace, a nonprofit organization that promotes education in nonviolence and peacemaking.p. The conference will continue with panel presentations from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday in the Hesburgh Center for International Studies. Discussion topics include the ethnic and religious dimensions of conflict, multifaceted solutions for peace and development, and the role of youth, the media and the military in the advancement of peace.p. McCarthy will conduct a peace strategies workshop Saturday and Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., Notre Dame’s president emeritus, will participate in a closing roundtable discussion.p. Registration for the conference, which is free and open to the public, will take place in advance on the Web at http://www.nd.edu/~krocinst/bechange02.html , or from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Hesburgh Center.
