The authors argue that in 2nd Q growth was substantial in Madrid. But they fail to reveal that according to AIREF it fell behind the mean for Spain (16,4%), with 9 regions growing faster. The year-on-year decline in Madrid in the 3rd Q was À8.1 (the authors forget the minus sign); only slightly above the mean for Spain: À9.0%. GDP fall in year 2020 in Madrid (a region but also a single province) is the eleventh worst out of 50 provinces: À10.5%. Close to the mean for Spain (À11.0%), one of the biggest decreases among all countries. [5] . The response to the pandemic in Madrid still needs to be fully evaluated. My hypothesis is that there is no trade-off between public health and the economy. The economy does poorly as long as the virus is let to thrive.
