Sithence thes wars so heard and durats Is now ceased between princes and Kings Let us pray to our lord Immaculate To grant us peace in eternal things. That we may taste of his blessed well springs which is free for them that doth it crave. For he sayeth ask, and gratis ye shall have. IT is to be understand that all good sewer: true and loyal truce communicative and merchant estate: abstinence of war and cessation of arms is established: accorded: agreed & passed: between the most excellent and puissant Princes: the King our sovereign Lord: the Emperor Charles the fift of that name: and Philip his son King of England their heirs: successors: Royalmes: countries: lands and seigneuries what so ever they be: aswell on this side the mountains as be yond: for the term & space of five years next ensuing: to begin on the fift day of February: the which truce our said sovereign King willeth and commandeth this to be inviolately observed and kept: and that all contradictours and gainsayers to be chastised and examplairely punished as infractors and brekers of the treuse and peace: and also the subjects on th'one side and of the other: to go: come: seiourne traffic: by and sell in all places aswell from the Occident as Orient: by sea: land: and fresh waters: safely and frankly: paying always the duties and subsides dew and accoustomed: as in time of good and entire peace: with out contradiction or empechement. Published at Rouen (following the kings letters and commandments) by the ordounance of that noble man Maistre jacques Brevedent one of the Kings council and Lieutenant general Civil at the Bailliage of Rouen: by Master william Fautrell Greffier to the said baily: accompagned with the Cinquantaine of the said town: and with a great number of Sergentes of the same all being on horseback: the said publication was made in all streets of the same Town and places accoustumed to make semblable proclamations: and likewise on all the Keys and warfes of the same: with xii trumpets: and xii. drums and phiffres. Also it was commanded that fierce of joy should be made: which hath been done with great joy and gladness of all the inhabitants of the same. On thursday the twenty day of Februarye. M. D. L. V.
