Changes of money fro England to Rome & to Venyse

AT calais ye shall have as many plackies for half a noble english. or for a ducat. xxiv. plackes. That is best money unto Brugis.   

¶ Brugys  
¶ At Brugis ye shall have as many plackes for half a noble or a ducat as ye had at calais/ ¶ For a gulden xix uplackes. ¶ And for a gulden of lylyars' .xxiiii.. ¶ And xvij mites for half a noble/ Or for a ducat xxxi lylyars. It is Braban money/ And in Braban uplackes been called styfers. ¶ A plack is worth two groats of flemish called pennies. To a groat two half pennies. to an half penny two farthings Xlviij. mites to an uplacke. to a groat xxiv. to an half penny twelve to a farthing vi/ ¶ A lily plack is three half pennies flemish. ¶ A lylyar is worth xxxvi mites. Three plackes been worth v pence english. ¶ V. gyldens & a plack be worth ij. nobles english. A gulden is worth three shilling/ of english money./ This money will serve well to Coleyn.   

¶ Coleyn  
¶ At Coleyn ye shall have reynysshe gyldens & coleyn pennies. Ye shall have for a gulden xxiiij pennies. For a coleyn penny twelve hallardes or myrkyns. all is one. And they will serve to Menske. ¶ four halla●des been worth an half penny english.   

¶ Brugys  
¶ Take in your change fro Brugys of gyldens with a round ball & a cross above on the one side. they been good unto Rome. and the best by all the way. ¶ Take none english gold with you from Brugys/ for ye shall lose in the change. And also for the most part by the way they will not change it. Renysshe gyldens they know well by all the way. Awed in them ye shall lose but little or nought.   

¶ Menske  
¶ At Menske ye shall have bemysshe & blaffardes and other hallardes. ¶ A Rhenish gulden is worth there xxi blaffardes. and as many of bemysshe.  
¶ A ducat of Venyse is worth xxvi bemysshe & iij. hallardes. ¶ A bemysshe or a blaffarde is worth there xi hallardes. they last to Kempston. Bemysshe will serve well to Rome. ¶ And twelve bemysshes is xi pence english.   

¶ Kempston  
¶ At Kempton ye shall have ferars & crousars. for a bemysshe xi ferars. For a crousare .v. ferars. For a gulden xix shillings & three ferars. Xlvi. Crousars for a gulden & a ferar.   

¶ Trent  
¶ At Trent ye shall have kateryns & markets. For a bemysshe ix kateryns. And of markets to a bemysshe four Two kateryns and two bagantines for a market. ¶ A maker is a galyhalfpeny. at Venyse called a sold.   

¶ Bolen  
¶ At Bolen ye shall have boleners & other kateryns & bayokes ¶ A bolener of Bolen is worth vi kateryns unto Rome. & at Rome.   

¶ Seine  
¶ At Seine a bolener of Rome is worth but vi katheryns & an half. And the same bolener is worth at Rome vi kateryns ¶ A ducat is worth at Bolon xlvi boleners. ¶ A gulden at Bolen is worth. xxxv. boleners. It is good silver. ¶ And of bayokes xlviij. to a gulden. A bayoke is worth four kateryns ¶ An old bolener of Bolen is worth i penny englyssh. And they been best from Bolen to Rome.   

¶ Rome  
¶ At Rome ye shall have bolendynes of Rome & bayokes & other kateryns/ For a ducat of Venyse lxviij bayokes/ For a ducat of Rome two less/ or for a ducat of Florence. And of bolendynes for a ducat xlviij For a gulden xxxvi boleners. Of bayokes to a gulden liiij ¶ And for a ducat x. papal groats of bolendynes of Rome. Of bayokes iiij. to a papal groat. To every bayoke four kateryns. ¶ To every kateryn twelve pychelynes called in Rome denares.  
¶ Itmm from Rome to Venyse old boleneres of Dolen will serve well all the way and groats of Venyse. and souldis called with us galyhalfpenyes & kateryns.  
¶ And be well advised that ye change not to many kateryns/ For they last but little way there be so many divers changes of them in diverse lordships. And the kateryns of the one lordship will not go in the next lordship:   

¶ Venyse  
¶ At Venyse been groats & grossettes & s called there souldes & bagantynes. For a ducat of Venyse is worth xxiiij grossones. and a s. and of grossettes xxviij. and two s for a ducat of Rome or of Florence four s. less for a groat or a grossone. All is one. Viij. s. for a grosset iij s. for a sold twelve bagancynes. For a ducat of Venyse ye shall have .v. li. &. xiv. s. A. li. is worth twenty s that been galy halfpenyes. And to every. s. xii. bagantynes.   

¶ Curphu  
¶ At Curphu ye shall have tourneys. black money xxiv. for a venyse grosset vi for a venyse. s. ¶ at Curphu. at Modn. & at Candy a sold of tourneys is but four tourneys/ Therefore beware & ask if ye buy any thing whether they say a sold of tourneys or of silver/   

¶ Modon  
¶ At Modon ye shall have but .v. tourneys for a sold sometime. & sometime more.   

¶ Candy  
¶ At Candy ye shall have .v. tourneys/ & sometime vi. as the Seignouri will set it. And there they have besaundes called parper. ¶ A parper is worth xxxij corneys.   

¶ Rhodes  
¶ at Rhodes ye shall have gillottes & jonettes & asperis. ¶ A gillot is worth a jonet & an half. A jonet is worth xxxij denares of Rhodes. An asper is worth half a jonet. that is xvi denares. A gillot a jonet & an asper been silver of Rhodes. save the asper is money of Turkey & silver ¶ A venyse ducat is worth xix jonettes &. viii. denares.   

¶ Cypress  
¶ In Cypress ye shall have groats of silver & half groats & other denares of black money & bezants. ¶ A besaunt is worth xlviij denares. And vij besauntes & an half to a ducat of Venyse. A groat of Cypress is worth xxxviij denares/ A dukat of Venyse is worth ix groats & an half. An half groat is worth ix denares & sic de singulis ¶ A grosset of Venyse is worth there but xvi denares/ A. s. but four tourneys & sic de singulis.   

¶ Surrey  
¶ In Surrey ye shall have dreams & half dreams Two dreams been worth three venyse groats. A dream is worth vi s. of Venyse. A ducat of Venyse is worth xix dreams. ¶ Dukates. groats. & souldes of Venyse will go well in Surrey and none other without great loss.    

A Good provision when a man is at Venyse & purposeth by God's grace to pass by the see to port Jaffa in to the holy land. and so to the sepulchre of our lord Ihesu Criste. in jerlm he must dispose him in this wise.  
¶ first if ye shall go in a galley. make your covenant with the patron betime. And chose you a place in the said galley in the overmest stage/ For in the lowest under it is right evil & smouldering hot and stinking. ¶ And ye shall pay for your ship freyghte. and for meet & drink to port jaffe and again to Venyse. l dukates. for to be in a good honest place. and to have your ease in the galley and also to be cherished.  
¶ If a man shall pass in a ship or a caryk. thenne chose you a chamber as nigh the mids of the ship as ye may/ For there is least rolling or tumbling to keep your brain & stomach in temper. And in the same chamber to keep your things in safeguard. And buy you at Venyse a padlock to hang on the door when ye shall pass in to the land. And ye shall pay for meet & drink & ship freyghte to port jaffe & again to Venyse xxx ducats at the least.  
¶ Also when ye shall make your covenant take good heed that the patron be bound unto you all before the duke of Venyse in a. M. dukates to keep all manner covenants with you. That is to wite. that he shall condute you to certain havens by the way to refresh you. & to get you fresh water & fresh breed & flesh.  
¶ Also that he shall not tarry longer at no haven than. three days at the most without consent of you all. And that he shall not take in to the vessel neither going nor coming no manner of merchandise without your licence for to disease you in your places. And also for tarrying of passages by the see.  
¶ And by the havens that here been following he shall lead you if ye will.  

¶ Venyse

¶ But be well were ye make covenant that ye come not at Famagust in Cypress for no thing. For many english men & other also have died. for that air is so corrupt there about and the water there also.  
¶ Also see that the said patron give you every day hot meet twice at two meeles. The forenoon at dinner. and the after noon at supper. And that the wine that ye shall drink be good and the water fresh & not stinking. if ye come to have better. & also the byscute.  
¶ Also ye must ordain for yourself & your fellow if ye have any three barrels each of a quart. which quart holdeth ten gallons. Two of these barrels should serve for wine & the third for water. In the one barrel take red wine. & keep that ever in store. and tame it not if ye may till ye come homeward again without sickness cause it. or any other special need/ For ye shall find this a special note & if ye had the flix/ For if ye would give twenty ducats for a barrel ye shall none have after that ye pass moche Venyse. And the other barrel shall serve when ye have spent out your drinking wine to fill again at the haven where ye shall come next unto.  
¶ Also ye must buy you a chest to put in your things. And if ye have a fellow with you. two or three ye need thenne to buy a chest that were as broad as the barrels were long. And in the one end ye need lock & key and a little door. And lay the barrel that ye will came first at the same end. For if the shipmen or other pilgrims may come thereto they will came & drink of it. & also steel your water which ye would not miss oft times for your wine. And in the other part of the same chest ye may lay your breed. cheese. spices/ & all other things.  
¶ Also ye must ordain you byscute to have with you/ For though ye shall be at table with the patron: yet notwithstanding ye shall full oft times have need co your own victuals/ As breed. cheese. eggs. wine. & other to make your collation/ For so me time ye shall have feeble breed & feeble wine. & stinking water. so that many times ye will be right fain to eat of your own.

IN the seven and twenty day of the month of june there passed from Venyse under sail out of the haven of Venyse act the son going down. certain pilgrims toward jerusalem in a ship of a merchants of Venyse called john Moreson. The patron of the same ship was called Luke mantel. to the number of xlvi pilgrims. every man payend some more some less as they might accord with the patron. And from thence to Venyse again. ¶ So they passed forth east southeast by the land of Slauony. leaving it on the left hand/ It is two hundred miles from Venyse. ¶ And there is a great city called jar under the domination of the Venycians. ¶ And in the same city lieth Simeon justus. ¶ And they passed forth by an isle of the right hand called Lyssa. In which been great hills and mountains. And in those hills groweth great plenty of Rosemary in length as it were fyrses.  
¶ After they came to a strong walled town of the Emperors of Constantinople called Aragose. four hundred miles from Venyse. ¶ And they sailed so forth till they came to the isle of Corphu on the right hand. & Turkey on the life hand. eight mile between both lands.  
¶ On friday at even they came to the haven of Corphu. There is a good town & two strong castles standing on two high rocks. It is a good isle & a plenteous. There they speak greek. It is under the Venysyens.  
¶ On Sunday next after noon they sailed from thence east southeast. leaving the land of Corphu on the right hand. & the land of Turkey on the lift hand.  
¶ On the Wenesdaye next after. to an isle on the lift hand called the isle of Modon. It is a great isle & a plentevoꝰ. It is three C. miles from Corphu And there groweth wine of Romeney. There is a good town & a strong castle. It is in Grece. and under the Venysyens.  
¶ On the Thursday next after noon they sailed from Modon east southeast. leaving the land of Modon on the right hand.  
¶ On friday next after they passed by a fair haven town twenty miles from Modon. called Corona. It is under the Venysyens. And so they sailed forth till they came an hundred miles from Candy. And there they sailed up & down three days & two nights in great peril beside great rocks. and durst not pass for the wind was against them. And one of the rocks is called in Greek Ouogo. which is to say in english. edged. An edgydhyll It is shapen like an egg. Upon the lift hand. vi. miles within. there is standing yet of the temple wherein Apollo was worshipped. And in the same temple Elena the wife of king Menelaus was ravished of Paris of Troy & lad in to the country of Asia. And the same isle where the temple was which was called of the greeks in old time Delphos in latin Cirigo.  
¶ On Wenesday in the morning next after they came to Candy three C. miles from Modon. There is a strong castle & a large. & a fair town without the castle well walled. & a strong haven walled strongly/ This isle is a great isle & a plenteous of all manner things. They be Greeks in that isle And the Venysyens been lords there. And every year or every other year there is chosen a duke by the same Venysyens. There groweth the wine called malvesey. Sometime they were called Cretes. It is of them written (in actibus applorum (Cietenses semper mendaces male bestie) ¶ In that land xxx mile from Candy is an old broken city. which was called Cretina. And a little beside there standeth an old broken church. which was build in the honour of Ihesu Crist. & hallowed in the worship of Titus epus. To whom Paul wrote in actibus aplorum Ad titum) ¶ A little beside that place there is an hill called Laborintus. and that is a marvelous place within forth. wrought out of hard stone of the rock. and the great hill above. A man may go within that place divers ways. some way ten miles. and some way more/ & some way less. And but if a man be well aware how he gooth in. he may so go he shall not come out again there be so many turnings therein. ¶ In this isle as they say there were sometime an hundred cities & an hundred kings. In this city the said pilgrims tarried a month. And there was great heat/ For from May to Halowmasse there groweth no grass. it is so brent with the heat of the son.  
And then about Alhalowmesse beginneth grass herbs & flowers to spring. And it is there then as Summer in England. so in the winter it is temperate no cold but little. There is never snow nor frost with ice. And if there come any frost with a little ice. they will show it each to other for a marvel. ¶ And fro, May till the later end of Octobre there is no rain nor clouds but right seld. but ever the son shineth right clear & hot. And about saint martyn's time the son is as hot there. as it is in August in England. And so it is in Rhodes and Cypress. and all that country eastward.  
¶ From this haven they passed the Wenesday next before the Assumption of our lady. and sailed east southeast. leaving Turkey on their lift hand.  
¶ On our lady day the Assumption they came to Rhodes before noon three C. miles from Candy on the right hand. There they tarried xviij days. There is a fair castle & a strong. In which castle been the knights of the Rhodes/ And there is a good city well walled with double walls. and a fair haven closed with strong walls & towers. And on the east party of the haven. there standeth on a strong wall xiiij mills of stone, every windmill as it were a strong tour. ¶ Of that place it is written that Paul wrote (ad Colosences) to that same place.  
¶ The first day of the month of Septembre in the even tide they sailed from Rhodes toward jerusalem vij C. miles east southeast. leaving Turkey on their lift hand. So they sailed forth fro Rhodes & never striked sail till they came to port jaffe.  
¶ In the vigil of our lady in the feast of the nativity they came to port jaffe. and there they tarried monday & Tewesdaye in the ship. till they had their sautconduyte. And on wenesdaye in the morning they entered in to the land at port jaffe. ¶ At port Jaffa beginneth the holy land. There Peter raised from death to life Thesbitan the servant of the apostles. ¶ There is Indulgence vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ And a little beside southward. there is a stone where Peter stood & fysshed when our lord called him. and said to him (sequere me)  
¶ At port Jaffa they paid are they came out of the ship every pilgrim one ducat of Venyse. for mangery and for safeconduct to the patron. And at port Jaffa every pilgrim paid for tribute vij ducats & xvij groats.  
¶ On Thursday they took their asses and road to Rames. There they paid every man a groat venycyan to his ass man for courtesy. And there they were received in to an hospital. and there tarried all day.  
¶ On friday in the morning they went to saint George's where he was martyred. ¶ And there is an old city. which is called Lida. There every man paid a groat venycyan. and came again to Rames. where they tarried all that day. which Rames is a great city and moche people therein ¶ And there was borne joseph of Aromathye as it is said. ¶ And at saint Georges is vij years & seven. lentes.  
¶ On saturday betimes in the morning they road towards jerusalem. And a little fro Rames is the sepulchre of Samuel the prophet. ¶ Also fro Rames is twelve miles to the castle of Emauns. where the two disciples knew christ in breaking of breed after his resurrection.  
¶ Also a little over the midway towards jerusalem is the valley of Terrebynti on the lift hand. where David overcame Golyam.  
From Rames to jerlm is xxiiij miles. So by two at after noon the same Saturday they came to jerusalem/ where they were received in to an hospital a little from the sepulchre. And therein they were all that day. & all that night.  
¶ On a sunday in the morning they began their pilgrimage. And a frere of mount Zion went w● them to inform the places. & the pardons of every place.  

¶ these been the pilgrimages within the city of jerlm  
¶ The first is before the temple of the sepulchre door. There is a four square stone white. where upon Criste rested him with his cross when he went toward the mount of calvary. ¶ Where is Indulgence vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also the house of the rich man. which denied Lazare the crumbs of breed.  
¶ In the sepulchre church of our lord on the north side of the temple. is a chapel where Criste appeared first to his mother after his resurrection/ and said (salve sancta parens)  
¶ And on the right hand of the altar there is a window in which standeth a pillar to the which Criste was bounden & beaten with scourges in pilate's house.  
¶ On the lift hand of the altar in a window standeth a little cr●sse. which is made of a piece of the holy cross.  
¶ Also in the mids of the same chapel is a round stone of divers colours. where saint Elyn proved the cross that Crist died upon with raising of a deed man to life. ¶ In each of those places been vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also without the same chapel door. is a round stone & an hole in the mids where Crist appeared to Mari Mawdeleyn after his resurrection in likeness of a gardener. and said noli me tangere) ¶ There is Indulgence vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little from thence is a chapel where Ihu Criste was prisoned while his cross was in shaping. ¶ There is Indulgence vij years & vij lentes.

¶ Also above in the temple a little from thence. there is a pillar of marble under and altar. on the which Criste was set, & crowned with thorns ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little from thence is a fair chapel xix steps high iij which is the mount of calvary where Crist suffered passion for all mankind. And there is a morteyse in the cliff. which died cleave when Crist yielded his spirit.  
¶ Also there is the morteyse in which the cross stood. ¶ In this chapel is Indulgence (a pena & culpa)  
¶ Also before the temple door is a place as it were a sepulture where Crist was laid when he was taken down of the cross. And there he was nointed & lapped in cloth. ¶ There is also (a pena & culpa)

¶ Also in the mids of the quere there is a stone & an hole in the mids. Where Crist said to his disciples Here is the mids of the world.  
¶ Also in the city without the temple been certain pilgrimages. The first where the jews compelled Simon to take the cross of Ihu when he went to the mount of calvary. ¶ seven years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also there is a place where Crist put down the cross. and turned unto the women. saying (Nolite flere super me sꝪ super filios vestros) ¶ seven. years and seven. lentes.

¶ Also the water of Cadron where the body of the cross lay many years for a bridge ¶ vij years and vij lentes.  
¶ Also a chapel in the mids of the vale wherein is the sepulchre of our lady descending xxviij grecis ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little thence is a chapel where Crist three times prayed to the fad. It is under a roche of stone in the earth. there is Indulgence vij year & vij lent. ¶ Also in the same vale is a church of saint jamys the less. in which he was the time of the passion of Crist. Where he promised he would never eat ne drink till he knew Ihesu risen. And there is the sepulchre of Zacharie the son of Barachie. which jews slew between the temple & the altar. ¶ There is Indulgence vij years & vij lentes.   

pilgrimages of the mount of Olivete  
¶ A little entering upon the mount of Olivete is the garden in which Crist was taken with the jews ¶ vij years & seven. lentes.  
¶ Also a little above toward the same mount is a place where Crist said to his disciples Vigilate & orate ne intretis in temptacomem ¶ vij years & seven. lentes.  
¶ Also a little from thence is a place where saint Thomas of Ynde received the gyrdill of our lady ascending to heaven. ¶ There is Indulgence vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little fro thence is a place in the same way where christ wept upon Ierl'm saying (Non relinquet in te lapis super lapidem ¶ vij years & vij lentes.

¶ In the vale of Syloe is a well where our lady washed the clothes of Ihesu christ. ¶ There is vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little without is a place where isaiah the prophet was sawed with a saw of tree ¶ vij years and vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little thence on the right hand a little decendynge is a water running out of an hill. Which is called Natatoria Syloe ¶ vij years and vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little thence above hanging on the hill been places like caves. where the apostles were hid in the time of the passion of christ ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a little from thence is a place which is called Archeldemak or Campus sctūs. which was bought with xxx pence that Crist was sodle fore.

pilgrimages of mount Zion  
¶ Act the high altar of mount Zion there is a place there Crist made his maundy with his disciples ¶ vij year & vij lentes.  
¶ Also on the right hand of the water is a place where Christ wyssh his disciples feet on Sherethursday. saying (Mandatum nowm do vobis) ¶ vij years and vij lentes.  
¶ And without the church on the south side is a little fair devout chapel. where the holy ghost descended on the apostles on Wytsonday. ¶ There is (a pena & culpa)  
¶ Also in the cloister beneath is a chapel where saint Thomas of Ynde put his finger to Cristes' side or wound ¶ vij year & vij lentes.  
¶ Also at the east end of mount Zion is the place where the Paschal lamb was roasted ¶ vij years and vij lentes.

¶ Also the sepulchre of David. Solomon. Ezechie & other kings of Judaea.

¶ Also on the north side a little beside mount Zion is a place there Cayphas house was. In which place Criste was put in prison. ¶ And there is the stone that was put on the sepulture of christ for he should not rise. By the which it is said in scripture (Quis revoluet nobis lapidem ab hostio monumenti. erat quip magnus valde ¶ vij years and vij lentes.  
¶ There been jacobines and keep that place worshipfully.

¶ From jerlm to Bethleem been five miles and in the high way three miles from jerusalem is the place where the star appeared again to the kings of Coleyne ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a place where was a church where Elias the prophet was borne. ¶ Also the sepulture of Rachelis the prophet.  
¶ In Bethleem is a fair church of our lady in which is a place where Crist was born under the high altar under earth ¶ A pena & culpa.  
Also a little by in the same chapel the cratch of our lord ¶ A pena & culpa.  
¶ Also above on the right hand of the quere is an altar where Crist was circumcided. ¶ There is a pena & culpa)

¶ Also in the cloister of the same temple or church is a chapel descending under earth. where saint jerom turned the Bible out of Hebrew in to Latyn ¶ vij years and vij lentes.

pilgrimages of saint john  
¶ five mile from Bethleem & fyves' mile from jerlm in mount Judaea is a church. And atte the high altar our lady saluted saint Elizabeth. And there our lady made the psalm of (Magnificat) ¶ vij years and vij lentes.  
¶ Also in the same church beneath in a wall on the right hand is a stone which hid & closed saint john Baptist in his childhood when Herod sought the children of Israel the Innocence. and slew them ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also another church above the roof of the same church in which the angel appeared to Zacharie the father of saint john. saying Eo qd non credidisti verbis meis eris tacens usque in diem nativitatis eius) ¶ And in that place he made the psalm Benedictus dnns deus israel. ¶ There is vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also a quarter of a mile is a church where saint john Baptist was born ¶ A pena & culpa)

pilgrimages in Bethany  
¶ From jerusalem two miles on the east party toward Flume jordan in Bethany is a temple where lazare was buried. And in the said temple is a little chapel. there Crist stood when he raised Lazare from death to life ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also the house of Simon Leprosus where Mari Mawdeleyn anointed christs feet. and wiped them with her here ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also in a place half a mile thence, where the said Mary and Martha said to Criste Domine si fuisses hic. frater meus. & c)  
¶ Also a little thence is the house of Martha & also the house of Mary Mawdeleyn.   

pilgrimages of Flume jordan  
¶ From Bethany to mount Quarentine been xxi miles. In which mount is a chapel wherein Criste fasted xl days. ¶ There is a pena & culpa)  
¶ Also in the top of the same mount is a place. where the devil set Crist & tempted him (Omnia regna mundi) saying (hec omnia tibi dabo si. & c)  
¶ Also five miles thence is the city of Jericho. in which Ihesu Crist preached often times.  
¶ Also four miles & an half from jericho is a chapel of saint john the Baptist/ where he said (Ecce agnus dei) ¶ vij years & vij lentes.  
¶ Also there by is the wilderness where saint johan Baptist walked.  
¶ Also half a mile fro that chapel is Flume jordan. where Ihu Crist was baptised of saint john Baptist. ¶ And there is also Indulgence a pena & culpa)  
¶ Also I counsel you to have with you out of Venyse confections Confortatives Laxatives Restrictives Grenegynger Almonds Rice figs Raisins great & small. which shall do you great ease by the way. And Pepyr Saffron Cloves & Maces a few as ye think need. and loof sugar also.  
¶ Also take with you a little cauldron. a fryenge-panne. dishes. platters. saucers/ of tree. cups of glass. a grater for breed. & such necessaries.  
¶ Also ye shall buy you a bed beside saint marks church in Venyse/ where ye shall have a feather bed. a matrasse. a pillow. two pair sheets/ and a quylte. & ye shall pay but three ducats. And when ye come again bring the same bed again and ye shall have a ducat & an half for it again though it be broke & worn. And mark his house & his name that ye bought it of against ye come to Venyse.  
¶ Also make your change at Venyse. And take with your at the least xxx ducats in venyse groats & grossones. Ye shall have at Venyse for a ducat of Venyse xxviij groats & an half. And after ye pass Venyse ye shall have in some place but. xxvi. & xxiiij And take with you three or four ducats in souldes. that been galyhalfpenyes of Venyse. for every groat of Venyse four souldes. And take with you from Venyse i ducat or two of tourneys. it is brass money of Candy. It will go all the way by the see. ¶ Ye shall have eight for a sold at Venyse. at Modon. & at Candy often but .v. or vi at the most.  
¶ Also hire you a cage for half a dozen of hens or chickens to have with you in the ship or galley For ye shall have need to them many times. And buy you half a bushel of mile seed at Venyse for them.  
¶ Also take a barrel with you for a siege for your chamber in the ship. It is full necessary if ye were sick that ye come not in the air.  
¶ Also when ye come to haven towns. if ye shall carry there three days. go betimes to land/ for then ye may have lodging before another/ for it will be take up anon. And if any good victual be ye may be sped before another.  
¶ Also when ye come to divers havens beware of fruits that ye eat none for no thing. As melons & such cold fruits/ for they be not according to our complexion. & they gender a bloody flux. And if any english man catch there that sickness. it is a great marvel but if he die thereof.  
¶ Also when ye shall come to port Jaffa. take with you out of the ship unto land. two botelles or two gourds. one with wine another with water each of a potell at the least/ For ye shall none have till ye come to Rames. & that is right feeble & dear
