¶ Here beginneth the seeing of uryns / of all the colours that uryns be of / with medicines annexed to every urine / & every urine his urinal / not imprinted in english before this time / much profitable for every man to know.

 piss pot to be colored in IN the beginning of this goodly treatys thou must take hede to four things. That is to say / to the substance / to the colours / to the regions / and to th● contents / which long to the doom of urine. And first look to the urine whither it be thick or thin / or else between both / than shal thou se through the urine the joints of thy fingers / and than it betokeneth a bad stomach and water in th● bowels. And yf it the urine be between thick and thin than it betokeneth swelling of the gull. The second is that thou shall take hede to the colours of the urine / as saith the master of physic. And these be the colours of waters that follow  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The first colour is white as day water of a well. This colour betokeneth indegestyon and a bad stomach & a bad liver. If thou se in this colour many shining beams / it betokeneth a postume in the milt. ¶ Medicina. Take grommel Saxfrage parsley and Sage / and boil them in stale ale and drink it. Also use powder of them in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The second colour is white as whey. If this urine be troubled thick / and little in quantity with white contents / it betokeneth the flux. ¶ Medicina. Make drink of the seed of white poppy & lettuce and use it. Also make oil or ointment of Henbane and anoint thy temples with the same.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The thyrde is a whytyssh yellow / almost as bright as the horn of a lantern. If this urine be little in quantity and oft made / it betokeneth the seek man may not keep his urine. And this colour is never knit with substance. ¶ Medicina. Take treacle and boil it in the ioyce of Molayne & drink it. Also treacle is good therfore. Also take vinegar and mustard & boil them together / and do thereto asmuch treacle as will into the shell of a Hasell nut / & let the patient use this medicine when the sickness taketh him.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The fourthe colour is as a white russet. This urine yf it be thick in sustaunce with outen gravel in the bottom / it betokeneth the Colica passio. ¶ Medicina. Take water cresses and grind them small / and boil them with wine / and drink it at even and at morrow. Also take Hony and seethe it to it be hard / and do thereto powder of Canell and powder of ginger and use it. Also make a plaster of Dywte & of wine yf it be th● flowers and lay it on the navel.

This urine yf it be little in quantity / and fat as oil / & frothy above / it betokeneth wasting. ¶ Medicina. Take the powder of Elenacampana & of Turmentyl / and boil them with claryfyed Hony / and make therof a confection and use it. Also for th● heed take the ioyce of mints & warm it & anoint thy heed therwith on morrow & eve.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The sixth colour is as broth of flesh th● is well sothen. This urine yf it be thick in substance / it betokeneth a quotidian fever th● cometh of phlegm. And all these syxe colours before said be tokens of bad digestion. ¶ Medicina. Take vinegar and mustard and boil them together / and than take treacle asmuch as a been or .ii. benes that is dry / than wash it with white wine and do thereto / and use this when th● sickness taketh the. Also Dyacameron and Tryasandaly is good therfore at even and at morrow.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .vii. colour is not fully so yellow as the yellow Apple. This urine yf it be over all thin in harvest and in winter / it bekeneth a quartayne. And yf it be thin in casting without savour / it betokeneth a tertian. ¶ Medicina. Take treacle & boil it in the ioyce of Apleyne and drink it. And Tryasandaly is good therfore.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .viii. colour is as an yellow Apple. This urine with a thin substance and a salt savour / betokeneth a double tertian that cometh of malancoly. And yf it be a chyldes urine / it betokeneth a quotidian. ¶ Medicina. Take figs Lycoryse ysope Horehoue and Elenacampana / and boil them al together in water till half be wasted / and use it at morrow and at even.

This urine yf it be thin in substance / and shadowed about over all / more thick above than bynethe / it betokeneth a tertian. And this colour appear in harvest or in winter / it betokeneth a quartayne. ¶ Medicina. Take Polypodyon anise Aleos epraatyke and meddle them with sugar / and use it in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .x. colour is as reed as ony Safron. This urine yf it haue yellow froth above / it betokeneth the Iaunesse. ¶ Medicina. Take Myrabolanes of ind & Aleos epraatyke Sene sugar and anise / and make therof powder / and use that at morrow and at even.

If this urine be thin in substance / in a child it betokeneth a quotidian / in a young man a tertian / & in an old man a double tertian / and in a woman a quartayne. ¶ Medicina. Take powder of Gect and the seed of town cresses and the seed of broom / and use it daily in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in The .xii. colour is as reed gold. This colour yf it be thick in substance and shadowynge above without ony wanheed / it betokeneth a lasting quotydyan. ¶ Medicina. Take. z. z. viridis Sinamum Sene anise / & meddle them with Hony / and use it early and late. Also take the roote of Saturyon mustard seed pepper and anise and meddle them together with Hony.

This urine yf it be more thick than thin / it betokeneth a brenning fever. ¶ Medicina. let him blood under the ankle / or on th● vain of th● arm / and take Aleos epraatyke. z. and boil it in a pint of white wine / and drink therof a sponefull at even and in the morning.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .xiiii. colour is reed as brenning coal. This urine yf it be in the beginning thin after reed / and thick and coloured above somewhat as lead / and yf the urine stink not it betokeneth a fever of excess of blood that is called Synocha in fluctina / & yf the urine stink than it is called Synocha putrida. In these fevers these be the tokens / a rody face / great evangelist / dry tongue and sharp / no rest at all / great ache in the heed / & a great pulse without ordure / and evermore seek. ¶ Medicina. Take Scamony & do it in a Peer or wardō roasted and eat it. Also make powder of Pyony roots & parsley roots and Mystell of the oak and use it in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .xv. colour is a swartys she reed as it were the liver of a beest. This urine with yellow colowred froth above betokeneth the Iaunesse & a postume of the liver. Also yf this urine be drasty in the bottom / it betokeneth the flowers. ¶ Medicina. Take the bone of the Hartes horn and make it to powder & drink it. Also use Dyacameron.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .xvi. colour is as black wine or roten blood. This urine in a lasting fever betokeneth death. If it be troubled / fatty / & flynkynge / as th● urine before that was reed as a coal / and this urine appear in a hole body it betokeneth brustynge of a vain in the raynes of skyppynge or lifting. ¶ Medicina. Take Osmunde Sauayne and grommel and boil them with white wine and with claryfyed Hony / and use it early and late.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .xvii. colour is won as lead. If this urine be bloody all about / so that no resydens may do away the blood heed / it betokeneth death. ¶ Medicina. Auente the in the legs / and use the crops of Sage. Also drink Try asendaly.

 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .xix. colour is black and shining as a ravens feather. This urine much in quantity and thin in substance betokeneth delyuerynge of the Quartayne. ¶ Medicina. Take the ioyce of Tansy and of the reed cool and boil them with white wine and Hony / and use it early add late.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ The .xx. colour is black as coal. This colour man agewe / little fatty & stinking / yf thou se thy face therein / than it betokeneth death. ¶ Medicina. drink the ioyce of Celendyne and Molayne / or treacle with white wine early in the morning / and late in the evening.   

¶ Here followeth the colours of waters with circles and medicines to them bylongynge.  
 piss pot to be colored in SVbrufus is like gold and silver meddled. This colour betokeneth a fever / and under the mids a postume. ¶ Circulus. If ther be in the circle small belles as it were of rain water / it is a wind in the heed rising out of stomach. ¶ Medicina. Take powder of Elenacampana and Turmentyll meddled with Hony & boil them together & make a confection and use it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Rubeus as is the fine gold. This colour betokeneth a fever through chafynge of the liver / a fever quartayne / & a postume on the amongs. ¶ Medicina Take treacle & boil it in th● iyoce of Molayne. Also Tryasandaly is good therfore.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Subrubicundus is not so hye a colour as the flames of fire. This colour betokeneth as doth the other aforesaid / that is to went Subrufus / but the evil is more grievous in this than that. ¶ Circulus after betokeneth a postume in th● bladder or in th● liver. ¶ Medicina. This medicine is as the medicine of Subrufus.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Certinus like a pome orange. This colour in a hole man betokeneth health / and in a seek man a shakyng in a fever tertian / wasting of the spleen and of the liver / & frenzy coming. ¶ Medicina. Take figs Lycoryce Horehoue & Elenacampana and boil them in a gallon of water unto a potell and use it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Subrubeus like Safron of the garden This colour betokeneth a fever of corrupt blood or a vain broken in the back or in the flowers. ¶ Circulus. fatness in the water betokeneth streytnesse in the breast and a fever. ¶ Medicina. Take water cresses and grind them small and boil them with wine and drink it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Kyanoslyke Raspyse. This colour betokeneth a gout / a cramp in the vain of the heart / a postume in the stomach. ¶ Circulus blood in the water betokeneth breaking of a vain in the back. Reed gravel betokeneth a spice of the ston in the raynes. ¶ Medicina. Take the bonne of the Hartes horn & make powder therof & drink it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Rufuslyke pure gold. This colour betokeneth Einerawdes / dropsy / & passing of flowers. ¶ Medicina. Take Hony and seethe it till it be hard / and do thereto powder of Sene and ginger. Make a pl●●●ter of Dewte and of wine yf it be the flowers and lay it to the nauyll.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Lacteuslyke as whey. This colour betokeneth death. And yf the patient sleep not than it is a long fever and a Franesy. ¶ Medicina. Make a drink of the white poppy and lettuce. Also make oil or ointment of Henbane & anoint the temples of the patient.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Kyrepos fallow as the heer of a camel. This colour betokeneth Dropsy & wind under the side / the ston / a postume on the amongs / & phlegm. ¶ Circulus. If the circle be green it betokeneth a great ache in the heed and under the right side. ¶ Medicina. use the crop of Sage & drink Tryasandaly.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Plumbeus as Purple. This colour betokeneth the falling evil / membres broken / a fever tertian / dyffycultnes of water making womans flowers. ¶ Circulus. If the circle be reed it betokeneth ache in the forehead / and yf it be black it betokeneth the falllynge evil. ¶ Medicina. Take Scamony and put it in a Peer or wardon & roast it. Also make powder of the root of Pyony / the root of parsley / and of the Mystell and drink it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Pallidus like flesh half rotton. This colour betokeneth a brenning under the liver / a fever / a feeble heed / and a bad stomach wasting of the amongs. ¶ Medicina. Take Mirabolanus iude. Aloe epraatyke and a dram of Sene sugar of each an vnce sa●e Aloe make powder therof and use it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Viridis green as cool bats. This colour betokeneth wasting of a natural heat / th● heed ache / & the morfewe. ¶ Medicina. Take ginger and Canell and temper them with Hony & use it early and late. Also take the root of Saturyon mustard seed & pepper & temper them with Hony.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Subpallidus not so perfect colour as ashes. This colour betokeneth a postume on the right side / tysyke hard to make water. ¶ Circulus. If this circle be white it betokeneth pain in the hinder parte of the heed. ¶ Medicina. Make powder of Geet / town cresse seed / & broom seed and use it in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Subcituus not so perfect yellow as an orange. This colour betokeneth the same that did the reed / but not so sore. ¶ Circulus. If that there be in the circle small motes as be in the son it betokeneth a rheum in the heed / defnesse / pose / heaviness. ¶ Medicina. Take powder of Polypody Annes Aleos epaticum and mingle thē with sugar & use them in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Inopos as black wine and old. This colour betokeneth much travail ensuing a vain rotten in the raynes. ¶ Medicina. Take Osmunde Saueray and grommel and boil them in wine and a little Hony / scum it & use it.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Rubicunduslyke flames of fire. This colour betokeneth a fever / a cough / an oppressyon of the heart / & default of wind. ¶ Medicina. Take vinegar and mustard & boil them together / and than take treacle asmuch as a nut and put thereto and eat it in thy sickness. And use Dyacameron and Tryasandaly.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Subuiridis a derkysshe green. This colour betokeneth as doth the other green / but it is not so sore as it. ¶ Circulus with gravel betokeneth ache in the back nigh unto the fundyment. ¶ Medicina. Let him blood under the ankle or in the vain of the arm / and take a pint of white wine and boil therein a dram of Aloe epraatyke & drink a spone full early and late.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Niger as black as a black horn. This colour betokeneth a fever quartayne / the black Iaunesse / death in short time. ¶ Circulus. water full of small tretes betokeneth dry complexyon / a postume in the right side / scales as it were of fishes / stopping of the flowers and scab in th● Matryce. ¶ Medicina. drink th● ioyce of Celondyne Molayne and treacle with white wine early & late.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Albuslyke as clear water / and it betokeneth wasting of the spleen / the dropsy / woodnes / pyssynge against will / chafyng of the liver / emerawdes / & stopping of the flowers. ¶ Medicina. Make a drink of grommel Saxfrage Perytory Sage Bukull & hemp and seethe them in stale ale and drink it and use the powder of them in thy pottage.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ Glaucus a whytysshe yellow as the horn of a lantern. This colour betokeneth indegestyon / a postume in the right side / ofttymes a fever / tysyke / and a bladder in the amongs. ¶ Medicina. Take the ioyce of Tansay and the reed coal worte and boil them with wine & with a little Hony & use it.  
when the urine cometh that hath great contents / as it were quetor after the casting of the urine / yf the urine stink more than it should do of kind / it betokeneth pain in th● raynes and in the spleen. And yf this Quet or stink not it betokeneth pain on the liver & bad digestion. ¶ blood and it be clear and pure it betokeneth breaking of a vein in the liver / yf it be little with a strong savour and ly in gobettes in the bottom it cometh fro the bladder / yf it be spotted as blood and reed than th● pain is in the raynes and in the share / yf it be clear & black ysshe than the pain is in the back & in the share and about the bladder. ¶ raw humours is a content of the urine which thou shall know thus. If the urine after his casting fleet full of framell motes / the which come of the residence of the bottom / or in in the mid region / than in the urine be raw humours. And yf the raw humours be above on the water it betokeneth a straight heed in the breast & short of brethe & nyppynge of the splen̄e. And yf it appear in the mids it betokeneth gryndynge in the body and clensyng in the guts & wind in the stomach. All this cometh of excess of meet and drink. And yf they be in the bottom the pain is in the reins / & sometime it is in th● cod. ¶ Fat heed without Axcys betokeneth wasting of grece about the fundiment. If it be with an Axcys it betokeneth wasting of th● body. In the first spyse of the Etyke the fat heed hoveth above the parties as it were of fat broth. The second spyse that hylleth all the urine above is like the web of Erren. The thyrde spice the urine is thick over all fat as oil / & yf it be cast on a marble ston it sheweth as oil / and this spyse is uncurable. ¶ Vermyn contents they he like to brine / sometime round as scales of a fish. If they appear wtthin an Axcys they betoken the first spyse of the Etyke they do appear like unto brine that hath little of the flower heath him. In the thyrde spice of the Etyke there do appear contents like these .ii. first / but they be greater & than they be all white. ¶ gravel reeed betokeneth the ston in the raynes. If the gravel be white or black / and hard and great it betokeneth the ston in the bladder. And yf they be reed and nesshe it betokeneth brent blood in the liver. ¶ Motes that be white and small and round betokeneth the gout both in the man and woman. If they appear in the bottom it betokeneth the rheumatic gout both in the stomach and in the breast. If they do gather than in a round gobet and doly so thick on the bottom under the circle / yf they be reedysshe and round it betokeneth a man child. If they be white or blue and thin as scales it betokeneth a woman child. ¶ Heeres that be long and small yf they show with an Axcys it betokeneth wasting of the body. And yf with the Axys be a flix and these heres appear it betokeneth death. ¶ Spermatyue resolutions yf they appear fletynke about in the urine / and the urine raw in colour it betokeneth pyssynge of kind without liking. If the urine be hye of colour it betokeneth that it was made post suppositum. ¶ ashes yf they appear in the urine / and the urine be white of colour / with resolutions black and blue being in the bottom it betokeneth th● Emerawdes. Also yf the contents be black or blue or Purpur with a low colour it betokeneth stopping of the flowers. ¶ The last content is called Ipostacis. It standeth in the bottom broad beneath & sharp upward. If this content be white & broad in the bottom and sharp upward without breaking & long lasting it betokeneth that the seek is worse than he was. If it be broken or haue in the mids or else about in the parties it betokeneth that th● seek man is cold in the liver and it may not defy. And it be in the mids / than it is called Neptilis and it betokeneth bad digestion and length of sickness. And it be black it betokeneth destruction of kind and death.  
NNow haue I shewed you the substance of uryns / th● colours / the regions / & the contents bylongyng to uryns. And now will I show the the compleccyons. If the urine be thick and reed / than it betokeneth blood. And yf it be reed and thin than it betokeneth colour. And it be thick & white it betokeneth phlegm. And it be white and thin than it betokeneth malancoly. And yf thou know the compleccyons by the cost of the urine / look yf it be sweet / than it betokeneth blood. If it be sour it betokeneth colour. And it be white without savour as water / it betokeneth phlegm. And it be salt it betokeneth malancoly.   

¶ How the compleccyons be gendered.  
IF thou will know where these compleccyons be gendered in a mannes body / I say that colour is gendered in the liver / and his dwelling is in the coffer of the gull. blood is gendered in the liver / and his dwelling is in the veins. phlegm that is natural is engendered in the liver / and it hath no proper dwelling / & therfore he is meddled with the blood to make the blood running. Malancoly is gendered in the liver / and his proper dwelling place is in the spleen. Malancoly and phlegm keep the bottom of the urinal.   

¶ How thou shall discern mannes urine fro womans urine / and beasts urine fro the urine of man and woman.  
THus I will that thou understand that yf there be ony drobled in mannes urine it sheweth in the mids of the urine / and in the womannes urine it doth not so. Another is this the froth after the casting of mannes urine it shalbe long / and of a womans after th● casting it shal be round. These .ii. last tokens Auycence saythe. ¶ Now beasts water fro mannes water. beasts water is the sadder and more suppling of complexion. Also the beasts water swelleth more than the mannes. Another meddle the urine of a beest with a mannes urine / and they shall parte asondre. And it be a cow th● is with calf / it is good to know fro a woman that is with child / for the drestes or th● contents of the Cowes urine is much greater than the urine of a woman / in asmuch as the woman is less and fairer of complexion than the cow is. ¶ If thou will know the first water & the second / the godheed sheweth whither he be in great eating and drinking / and than the first water is greater in quantity or less stinking than th● second / or else yf he live mesurably / than the first shalbe more thick than the other. ¶ Now haue I told the of the substance with the colours of the uryns and compleccyons / and to know mannes urine and womans with chyldes fro the urine of beasts.

Another. If her pulse bete fast / and she haue no Axcys / it betokeneth that she is with child. And it be the pulse of the left hand it betokeneth a man child. And th● contrary of a maid child. And the child be dead within the woman these be th● tokens / her brethe stynketh / she hath great pain about her navel / she may not go well / & she may not long sit still / and her eyes be very small. And a woman will be with child / let her take the ballockes of a barrow or of a boor and dry them well and make powder therof & let her drink therof with wine after the clensynge of her flowers / & than let her haue ado with a man fresshly & she shall conceive And Galyen saythe that women that haue straight ports of kind and narrow mothers should not haue ado with a man lest they conceive and dy. Therfore because they will not abstain wolf fro men / therfore let them do thus. If a woman will not conceive / let her bear next her bare flesh the mother of a goat that never had kid. Also a sto●● t●●t is called Gee / yf a woman bear it on her orete it in powder / it letteth to conceive. And also a Mole warp / otherwise called a Molle / take him & cut away his ballockes and let him go alive / and let her bear them in her bosom. Also yf the woman be hurt in chyldynge / & after that for dread of death will not conceive / let her put in the skin that cometh out with the child as many cornes of Spurge seed or of barley cornes as she will yeres abide barren without child. And she will abide so ever / let her put in her hand full.   

¶ How the child encreseth in the mothers womb.  
COncepcyon is after this maner. The first month is made purynge of the womans blood. The .ii. month is made expressyon of the blood & of the chyldes body. The thyrde month the child hath eeres and nails. The .iiii. month the child stirreth / and that maketh the mother to perbrake & spewe. The .v. month the child taketh likeness of th● father and mother. The .vi. month it taketh strength of sinews. The .vii. month the bones and the sinews be made hard. The .viii. month the child is fulfilled with all maner proprytes / and all his benefits. The .ix. month it cometh fro darkness into light.   

¶ Here followeth all the uryns that betoken death / as well the urine of man as of woman.

¶ The thyrde knowledge of uryns / the which is called the regions.  
THou shall understand that in the urine when it is in the urinal there be three regions / the first / the second / and the thyrde. The thyrde beginneth at the bottom of the urinal and lasteth to the thycknesse of two fingers breed upward. The second beginneth thereas the thyrde doth end / and lasteth upward to the circle / and the first fro that all upward / and in every of these regions be dyvers contents.   

¶ Of the contents of uryns.  
NOw will I show the four contents th● bylonge to uryns & first I will begynne at froth. Froth that dwelleth and clecleueth to th● circle betokeneth indegestyon and wind in th● stomach and in the bowels and in th● heed. And yf above that froth dwell great bubbles / it betokeneth great pain in the reins. Froth also that dwelleth great betokeneth indegestyon and wind. And yf the froth dwell small it betokeneth brenning in the stomach & brent blood in the liver. If the froth be full of grains it betokeneth rheum in the heed and in the breast and in the black iaunesse. And yf it be green it betokeneth the iaunesse that cometh of brent blood in the liver / as of envy and wrath / and both be in the spyse of the Iaunesse. And also of the black Iaunesse is swelling of th● gull. And it be a swartysshe yellow / it cometh of great heat of the blood of the liver. A small sky aperynge and shadowynge the urine above / yf the urine be a party blewe / it betokeneth pain at th● heart and shorteth of breath and wind that cometh of the amongs. And yf the urine be not blewe & such a sky shadow the urine above / it betokeneth chafynge of the liver / & specially yf the froth be yellow.

 piss pot to be colored in ¶ grains that dwell in the circle after casting of the urine gone down / and after rise up again to the circle they betoken rheum in the heed / and yf they gone down & turn not again to the circle / than they betoken rheum in the breast / in the amongs / and in the spleen. And yf thou se two small grains in the second region or mo or less knit to a small sky / than it betokeneth pain in the breast of rheum & wicked stomach / bad liver and bad amongs.   

¶ How thou shall know the pulse.  
when thou towchest the pulse with thy four fingers / yf the pulse under thy little finger be fell & smytynge and under the leech finger it be stronger and under the middle finger more strong and so going upward / it betokeneth good / & it be the contrary it is evil and betokeneth death. As thus. If the pulse be feeble under the first finger / & under the second more feeble / & so going upward it betokeneth death. Also yf the pulse be felt under four fingers to he come to his stroke / and he fail in the .xi. stroke it is good. And it be the contrary / it betokeneth death. Also yf the fault come of the .xi. & be feeble / and in the .x. more feeble / in the .ix. and so going downward / this betokeneth death.

¶ For the Dropsy be it hote or be it cold to hele man or woman that ever shalbe heled with medicine.  
MEn or women yf ever you will be holpen of the Dropsy hote or cold take wormwode Petymorell Fetherfoy Spurge & walworte / of the roote of each half a pound. fennel parsley I soap Sage Smalage anise mints well Cresses Horehounde Endyue Lyuerworte the middle bark of an Eldre three of each a quartron and wash clene the roots and the herbs & powne them well in a mortar / and do it in an earthen pot that was never occupied / and do thereto .ii. gallons of good white wine or good worte that is not turned / & seethe it to it come to a gallon / than take it down and strain it through a heeren syuc into a fair vessel / than wash the said earthen pot fair and clene with fair water / & when thou hast done put in the liquor again into the same pot & cover it fair & give of it to the patient an half pint full at a time and let him use it first and last / at even hote / and at morrow cold. And let him eat no meet .iii. dayes but breed and pottage made of wellores & of white wine and otemele. And let him take. ii.li. of fair Sage & wash it clene & do it in a coffin of doughe that is made with wheat and do it in an oven and bake it as breed is baken / & than powne thy coffin in a brazen mortar & do it in a fair clout / and put in the said clout with the said confection a weight the which shal peyse .iii. pounds / & hang it in a gallon pot of ston / and fyl it full of good white wine / or of stale ale / & cover thy pot that the air go not out / & let th● seek drink no drink but that ale while it lasteth. And when that is gone make redy more of the same to the time he be hole / and that he drink none other drink / but that is ordained both first and last. And after that three dayes be gone of etyng of his pottage / let him eat ony convenient meet that he desireth / but nothing of drinks / but as before is said. And by the grace of god he shalbe hole in a month or less. Also let him blood in .i. vain or .ii. for this is proved true.   

¶ The matter following treateth of humours / and first of the avoiding of humours.  
severally to treat of every humour the humours that betoken much haoundaunce in the breast in the amongs or money other place of a man they may be defied with this digestion. Make a receit of Calamynt Pulyell royal / the roote of a lily gladden Brother worte maiden here .i. li. Lycoryce .ii. dooms fennel even a dram / flowers of violets even .ii. dooms sugar .ii. li. and make a syrup.  
¶ The hote humours that abide within the body must and defied with this digestion. Take maiden here anise Endyue hyssop Freys Hartes tongue Ceterat Polytrycum / a braken that groweth in the mars among stones Adeantes an hand full and an half / Coll seeds even a dram / Cauda penudes with rose seed .ii. dooms / frim gum ara flowers of Borage .iiii. dooms ginger .ii. li. and make a syrup.  
¶ If humours of colour be in the stomach or in the liver / or in ony other like it shalbe defied by this digestion. Take Hartes tongue Endyue Sowthystell Cycore right like Daundelyon nigh an hand full gladden maiden here Brakes of the fe●ne. M.v. violet .iiii. dooms Prunes / rose seed / lettuce seed / Sandalis. Clene sot a dram / seed of Barbarinis a dram / Borage leues .ii. dooms / sour wine. i.li. sugar. ii.li. & make therof a syrup. ¶ Now yf cold humours be habundaunte in th● same membres they may be defied by this digestion. Take Ambrose and ●ame Sage .iii. hand full Camamyl Hony sokles femelles Reoyt Boynworte Spereworte five leued grass Hartlyuer Penyworte that groweth in the mars Colombyne gladden / th● great Dayse and the little Dayse Sowthystell maiden here Horehounde Bugle roots. M.ii. Hony & sugar. ii.li. sour wine and make a syrup.  
¶ If malancoly humours be habundaunte in the spleen or in other places or membres like / they shalbe defied by this digestion. They shalbe defied as told humours be in the liver / but there shalbe put thereto these herbs Hartestonge and of the middle bark of the date ●ree & of the middle bark of Asshe tre. ¶ Now yf humours be brent and dried in the sylenne or milt / than shall it be defied with this digestion. Take the ioyce of Fumytory and Borage. ii.li. scabious Affodyll Fumyter dockes that grow in the Maryce Bugle Stychworte Cycore like Daundelyon Hartes tongue Endyue Sowthystell. M.i. Sicados Rose seed Endyue seed & lettuce seed A●e a dram violet flowers Borage .iiii. dooms sugar. ii. li. sour wine and make a syrup.  
¶ cold humours in th● reins & bladder or in other membres like shal be defied with this digestion. Take roots of parsley Macedony Phylypendula An̄a. M. z. both the water Cresses field brere five crops of five leued grass seed of Selondyne Rosemary herb johan gladden Ioyce of Celondyne Ioyce of parsley .li. Grāyll .ii. dooms Spycknarde seed of Cucumber Camamyll Honysokles Anns Fynkell An̄a a dram parsley seed Stammarch seed Boynworte & wild Lely Spereworte Malsidium An̄a .i. li. Hony ginger .i. li. wine of sour grains .i. li. & make a syrup.  
¶ Now yf hote humours abound in the same membres they be defied as hote humours in the liver / with more thereto / as parsley roots / five leued grass Sper worte gladden Fenellrotes / and make thy syrup as the other.  
¶ Now yf cold humours abound in the Marys / they shalbe defied thus. As cold humours be defied in the reins with this put to mugwort Calamynte roots of gladden garlic Lysby Betony .iii. dooms.  
¶ If hote humours abound in the Marrys / they shalbe defied as other hote humours in the reins / but do thereto more of mugwort.  
¶ And old humours abound in the joints / they shalbe defied thus. Take th● ioyce of herb prive .i. li. Or take herb prive and mugwort. M .i. Gladē lily roots Endyue Capill{us} Veneris Adeantes. M .i. flower of Camamyll / flowers of Honysokles / fennel / wild lily seed / sperworte seed a dram of a rose / clene Lycoryce / seed of lettuce / a dram of Hony / ginger .i. li. and make a syrup.  
¶ And there be hote humours that abound in the joints / they shalbe defied thus. Take Endyue & Sowthystell Hartestonge / ioyce of prive / & of herb prive / violet / flowers of Camamyll / Honysokles / rose / seed of lettuce / vt prius.  
¶ And know well that there be humours composed & habundaunt in the same membres / and so they must be defied like as they be composed in dyvers humours. And membres / medicines laxatyue compost and gendered together as dyuersycat of humours & membres.  
¶ There be some receytes that principally void phlegm / as doctors do say / and they call them Electuaryes / as these th● do follow. Ierapigra / Benedicta / Blanca / Iodorycon / Araccardinum / Stomaticum laxatiuum / Pille archi / Paulinum.  
¶ Ther be other receytes that principally do purge Malancoly / as these. Katertecaria imperial / Iera rufus / Diacene / Trisfera saracina / Ieralagodyon / Theodorum / Euperston.  
¶ Now some ther be that principally void colour as a lectuary de succo Rosarum and Diaprums.  
¶ Also dyuersytes of membres dyuersytes of medicines.  
¶ Also Ierapigra & Benedicta of their proprytes should void phlegm / and Benedicta namely in the reins voideth phlegm.  
¶ Refrosyn & Iera sacra do purge {pro}perly the phlegm in the heed. Also it is good for the eeres and the eyes / and it purgeth the hardness of the spleen / also it maketh clene the mars.  
¶ Benedicta that is called the blessed receit / for it is good for the gout in the joints / in the hands / and in the feet / in t●● bladder and in the reins.  
¶ Bluca is good to purge humours phlegmatic / & for the venom in the arm that is called Cehpasia / & it is good for ache in the veins / for the Palsy / and for the Epylence.  
¶ Araccardinum is called Anacardis whose propryteis to entre and void phlegm / properly of the heed / and most behind. And this lectuary shall restore again the wit / to gather memory / & the turning of the brain the which is called Verusor of phlegm Also it profiteth against the sickness of the mars or sickness that cometh of a cold cause.  
¶ Stomaticum laxatiuum et Electuaria dulce purgant humores frigidos in stomacho.  
¶ Pilule Arthiria properly do purge phlegm in the reins. And it is good for the gout in the hands and feet as Podager.  
¶ Pilule Aure do purge phlegm in the heed / & properly they sharp the white of the eyes. And they be good against the sickness of the eyes.  
¶ Pilule Fetide they purge great phlegm in the joints. They be best for the Sitica passio / the which is a malady that beginneth in the reins and draweth to the heart / and it biteth a man or a woman as sore as they should die. And a great while after it passeth away as wind / but there shall no meet for th● time pass through thē. Also Pilule Fetide be good for joints.  
¶ Pilule de Euforbie do purge humours of phlegm fallyge fro the brain to the sinews. And it is good for the Palsy / which confeceyon Auyc●n th● doctor drew out of the Antedoctary.  
¶ Pilule Chochie they ●●●ge humours fro the webs of the brain. And it is good for the Epylence.  
¶ Pallinum is called the great Antedoctary / it hath great virtue. It is a good lectuary for the amongs / for the old cough that is departing of th● cold humours fro the heed to the breast. And it is good for th● vycesse of the breast of cold humours and purgeth th● heed / the breast and the stomach of phlegm and malancoly. And the quantity that should be used ther of is the weight of two pens halfpenny at ones / & the patient be strong of complexion than give to the patient two dooms / that is double the weight before said / and so it dureth and worketh as dyvers humours do abide in dyvers membres more than nature will. evenly dyvers medicines should euenly be meddled together. And of some medicine more than of another / as medicines that be compounded should be sharped with dyvers sharpynges / and the medicine should be made of dyvers things / as the diversity of humours do ask.   

¶ Here follow medicines to purge Malancoly.  
PVrgyng of medicines Malancolyus the first is Iera Rufini the which purgeth and voideth Malancolyes: so th● it is good for them that that be scabbed of a salt phlegm & for an evil called Elephacie nigh as it were lepur. And it is good for th● Morfewe that will change in dyvers placys.  
¶ Also Diacene a lectuary will avoyde th● abundance of humours in the spleen and the heart. Also it is good for the spleen / or for them that be troubled with fantasies or sorrows.  
¶ Trifera sarasenica it is called Trifera because it maketh old men to appear young men. And it is called Sarasenica because it was found among the Sarasyns. It voideth Malancoly out of the heed / the stomach and the liver / and the stoppynges of the veins and the sinews that go to the spleen. Also it is good for Veterica which is called th● great Iaunesse / which cometh of colour that is brent.  
¶ Ierologodyon Nymphitum Iera Sacra Logosa and Struere Nymphitum and Inpeditum. This lectuary will hele a man that may not speak / for it purgeth properly out of the heed Malancoly and phlegm / so that it is good for th● sinews called Vertige. Also it is good for a venom that is called Clepasite. Also it is good for them that dream on nights that they se dyvers spirits.  
¶ Caterica imperial / et laxatiuum. emperors & great lords found this lectuary. It purgeth Malancoly humours in the reins / and an evil that is called Refroticis. Also it letteth fowle wind out of the stomach and the reins. Also it is good for Illiosis the which is a malady that rotteth deadly the wind that riseth beneath in the chynes end & goth to the heart.   

¶ Here followeth Electuaryes to avoyde colour.  
NOw will I write of them th● avoyde colours / and first of the Electuary called Diaprunis. It is called so because it standeth most by Prunes / & it voideth colour fro the stomach and fro the liver.  
¶ Electuary of the ioyce of Roses that is properly against the hote gout & purgeth the reed colour. And it is good for sickness in the joints of colour. Also for them th● be right seek in the fever tertian.   

¶ How thou shall know to give th● quantity of medicines.  
medicines before that they be compounded together / they be dyvers in th● making / as some of more & some of less / as of Scamony & of other veymy moystynges & violent / as Turbyt Elebre Agryt Euforbie Colo Aloe & of all other like these / so that the taking of Irapygra shal be .iii. dooms. The weight of a drame is two pens halfpenny. ¶ Ieraphim but .ii. dooms for that is more compounded with venomous medicines and vyolentes than Ierapigra / therfore the less shal be taken therof. ¶ Also of Beredicta may be. iii dooms. ¶ Also of Blanca .iii. dooms. Also of pilularum Archicarum should be taken .iii. dooms. ¶ Also of pilule Aure .iii. dooms. ¶ Also of pilularum de Euforbie .iii. dooms. ¶ Also of pilularum Fetidum and of Stomaticum laxatiuum .ii. dooms. ¶ Also of electuarium dulce .ii. dooms ¶ Also of Theodoricon anancardium .iii. dooms. ¶ Now I haue shewed you of the giving of the quantity of medicines / and the diversity of them how they avoyde superfluity of phlegm or colour.  

¶ Here beginneth the quantytes to avoyde Malancoly.  
AS it is said of Ieraphyny / so we shall say of Diacene / and the giving of the quantyce shalbe an vnce. Hoc Auicen. ¶ Also of trifera Sarasenica the receit of it is .iiii. dooms. ¶ Also of Theodoricon eupisticon. ii dooms. ¶ Also the receit of Ieralododyon .ii. dooms even. ¶ Also of Caterica imperial .i. dram.   

¶ Now it shalbe said of th● quantytes of medicines.  
TO avoyde Colour / as of Diaprunis .ii. dooms. ¶ Also the receit of succa Rosarum be .iii. dooms. These be the most giving of medicines compounded.   

¶ Now the medicines th● will avoyde cold humours.  
medicines that avoyde cold humours of the breast and of his membres and veins / th● first is Pallinum that must be sharped with .iii. dooms of Agryll / repressed with a dram of the ioyce of Lycoryce. ¶ medicines that should purge cold humours of the stomach and of the liver should be sharped with .ii. dooms of Turbyt / and repressed with a dram of the powder of pepper or with Mirabolanus Indiis lebuli / as their quantytes be said before / or with Esule ope / as is said before.   

¶ How hote humours should be purged & sharped.  
DOw hote humours should be purged & sharped with Mirabolan{us} Cytemys / or with Rubarba / or with Cassia fistula asania / or with Tamaridis or Scamyon. And ther be ony Dropsy of old time fastened on the liver / the medicine may not be sharped with Scamony / for that wolde take of the skin of the liver / therfore take Esula or Rubarba and do to the medicines as is before written.    

¶ Here after followeth dyvers and many colours of uryns / & every Vryn his urinal / with tokens how you shall know the disease of the patient.  
 piss pot to be colored in THe urine that is Reed as fine gold / or else as french gold / neither to thick nor to thin / with a clene and even subsubstaunce betokeneth health in a sanguine man.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ urine yellow as an orange / or else like the ioyce of Celondyne / and thin with an even and clene substance betokeneth health of a coloryke man.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ urine white or pale / neither to thick nor to thin / with a clene and even substance betokeneth health in in a manlancoly man.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ urine white as water / & not to thin / with beams as they were ye●des aperyng in the mids betokeneth sickness of the spleen. ¶ Thes be the tokens. Ouertwharte swelling in the side with hardness / indegestyon / a small neck / a lene body / heaviness and sloth in all th● body / and namely and they go against a hill / paleness of visage / and swelling after meet.

Great thrust / vnmesurable dryness of body / & this breedeth often the Dropsy.

 piss pot to be colored in ¶ urine white & thin long contynuynge with scales and black resolucions / betokeneth in womans water withholdynge of her flowers. ¶ The tokens. Ache in the heed / the back and the neck. In the nether party of the body / the womb desireth no meet and evil appetite.  
 piss pot to be colored in ¶ urine white / great / and thick / and little in quantity / fresh in the beginning / and after it waxeth white and thin and much in quantity in the Iudycyal day / betokeneth a fever called Amphernie / & some call it a fever cotydyane / & it betokeneth solution of the same fever.

¶ Here after following thou may lightly know & perceive what medicines be good for parte of such uryns as be spoken of before.  

¶ Karapos.  
TThe beste medicine for this urine Karapos is to auente the in the legs / and to use crops of Sage / & drink Triasendula and use it.   

¶ Kyanos.  
¶ Take the bone that is in the Hartes heart and make powder therof and drink it & use Diacameron.   

¶ Plumbea.  
¶ Take Scamony and do it in a Peer and roast it & use it. Also take the root of Pyony / parsley / & Visc{us} querci / & make a powder of all these / and use it in ale or in pottage.   

¶ Inopos.  
¶ Take Sauayne and grommel & boil them with white wine & Hony & scum thē well. Also drink them early and late.   

¶ Lactea.  
¶ Make a drink of the seed of white poppy & lettuce & drink it. Also make oil of Henbane seed / or else make an ointment of the herb of Henbane and anoint thy temples therwith.   

¶ Alba.  
¶ Make a drink of Saxfrage Gromel parsley and Sage / & boil them all in stale ale / & use the powder of them in thy pottage.   

¶ Glauca.  
¶ Take the ioyce of Tansay and of the reed worte & boil them in white wine & a little Hony therwith & use this medicine early & late.   

¶ Nigra.  
¶ drink the ioyce of Sclydon & Molayne & treacle with white wine of gascoigne early and late.   

¶ Pallida.  
¶ Take Mirabolanus Iude & Aloes Epaticum / Cene / & sugar / of Aloe a dram / & of all the other an vnce / & use this medicine early & late.   

¶ Subpallida.  
¶ Make powder of get and of the seed of town Cresses & broom seed / and use this medicine in thy pottage.   

¶ Viridis.  
¶ Take ginger and Canell & Cene & temper them with Hony. Also the root of Saturyon & mustard seed & pepper of all like much & temper them with Hony. Also let blood under the ankle by time or in the vein of the arm.   

¶ Subuiridis.  
¶ Take a pint of white wine of gascoigne / and a dram of Aloes epaticum / & drink a spone full at even & another at morrow.   

¶ Citrina.  
¶ Take lycoras / figs / ysope egrymony or horehounde & Elena campana & boil them all together in a gallon of water unto the half be wasted / than strain away the herbs fro the ioyce and use it early and late.   

¶ Subcitrina.  
¶ Take powder of Plipedranis / Aloe epatyke and mingle them with sugar / and use it in thy pottage.   

¶ Rubicundus.  
¶ Take vinegar and mustard and boil them together / & than take asmuch as a nut of treacle & do ther to / & etc of this when the sickness taketh the. And use Diacameron & Triacendely.   

¶ Subrubicundus.  
¶ This medicine is as rubicundus is.   

¶ Rufus.  
¶ Take Hony & seethe it till it be hard / & do ther to powder of Cene & ginger / & make a plaster of Duytte & wine / & it be the flowers lay it on the navel.   

¶ Subrufus.  
¶ Make powder of Elena campana & Turmentyll / & meddle them with Hony / & boil them together and make a confection / and use this medicine first and last.   

¶ Rubeus.  
¶ Take treacle and boil it in the ioyce of Molen & drink it. Also Tryacenduly is good therfore.   

¶ Subrubeus.  
¶ Take water Cresses & grind them small / & boil them with white wine & drink it.
