Capitulum. xxxi. ¶ Thus endeth the contents of this book. ¶ Here followeth prayers and full devout contemplations with thankings of all the benefits given to mankind/ and specially in the work of our redemption/ of the incarnation and passion of christ/ called the fruit of redemption. And first it putteth a prayer to move the mind of man to laud god. Capitulum i Lord my god I desire to laud thee/ for I know myself to be made to laud thee. Open my mouth in thy laud that I may sing joy to thy name. Steer my heart in thee/ put away every tedious thing/ infunde grace/ kindle love/ take away wickedness of thy servant/ cleanse me from all uncleanness of body & soul that I may be found worthy unto the honour of thy name/ & thereto open my lips. But the dignity of thy deep majesty who may praise worthily/ behold all the virtues of heavens/ and every aungelyke potestate sufficeth not to laud/ condyngly the magnitude of thy highness. How moche less a frail man filth and worms meet faileth in thy conding laud. And so doth also every creature/ every orison/ every tongue/ and sermocination/ what now therefore. I shall cease fro laud/ for I can not worthily laud thee/ or else therefore I shall cease and hold me still/ for I know myself unclean & unsufficient/ Be it forbade such ingratitude that I should cease to laud thee/ for every creature should laud thee/ most of all truly resonableman to whom y● hast given so great benefits. ¶ Laud to the holy trinity for himself/ and for the creation of heaven and earth/ of angel and man/ and for his benefits. Capitulum ii O blessed lord god/ father/ son/ and holy ghost/ three persons and one god/ my lord/ my god/ my maker/ my redemptor my nourisher/ my defender/ my sweetness/ my mercy/ my refuge/ my strength/ my victory/ my saviour/ my joy/ and my glory eternal. I laud the. I glorify the. I honour & worship the. O blessed trinity for that thou art in thyself/ for thou art the highest good/ from whom floweth all goodness/ thou art gracious eternyte/ thou art eternal felicity/ thou art the deepness of felicity/ thou art only god/ and there is none without the. I laud & honour the. O blessed trinity that myghtfully hast made of naught heaven & earth/ son & moan and all things that be in them/ and for it pleased the to make holy angels to laud and to use the eternally/ & that they might assist to us faithfully in this exile with hoveable coun●eyles and helpings/ and to declare thy ineffable goodness thou madest all thing for man/ and more over thou made man with thy proper hands to thine own image and similitude only for thee/ & thou formed in him understanding/ and noblysshed him with free will. I laud and glorify thee▪ for that great gift thou set him in paradise/ flowing with delights that he might have high things in fruition/ inferior things in governing/ and to possede all things to worship the for evermore. And thou made not these noble creatures angel & man for any necessity that thou had to them/ for truly all thing was sufficient in the to thine eternal joy & glory/ but of the fervour of thy charity thou were moved to created them that such creatures should be part takers of thine ineffable joy and glory I laud and honour the good lord for that it pleased the among all thy blessed works to make me a reasonable man/ and hast given me wisdom/ reason/ understanding/ & free liberty/ & hast formed me with all right limbs and fetures of body/ and hast given me many blessed gifts/ spiritual & temporal/ and also meet/ drink/ clot/ and all things necessary which many a good creature that hath served the better than I have done hath missed/ and for that thou hast visit my heart many times with many graces & spiritual monitions delivering me oft fro many perils both of body & of soul/ and fro slanders/ shames/ & rebukes of this world to the which for my sins I might have fall unto/ & for that also that thou hast suffered me in all mine iniquity/ malice/ and all mine horrible & abominable sins/ patiently always abiding for my conversion and amendment/ when innumerable times thou might have slain me/ & of right have put me to eternal pains and damnation. I laud & glorify the lord god for all thy mercy which always thou hast showed to sinners/ patiently abiding for them/ mercifully calling them/ benygnely receiving them/ haboundauntly giving grace to them/ and to such familiarity admitting them/ as though they had never sinned. O mercy full lord & patient god what shall I say to the for all these benefits/ what lauds and thankings shall I yield to thee/ what & all my sins were voided fro me truly yet were not I worthy for the least of thy benefits and mercies to give the conding laud/ but as a wretched sinner can in all my heart I laud the. I thank the. I honour & worship thee/ and all honour & laud be yield to the now & evermore. Amen. Pater noster. ¶ Of the miserable laps of man & of the mercy of god showed to him/ & of the incarnation of christ. Ca. iii I Laude and glorify the lord god for thy most excellent mercy & indycyble misericord/ by the which thou did spare man from irreparable damnation/ trespassing to thee/ being unworthy to all thy benefits/ sending him out fro the gladness of paradise to do penance for his sins And all be it he was worthy eternal damnation for his transgression/ and should not have forgiveness/ thou died not show than the rigour of justice/ but the sweetness of ineffable mercy/ putting to him the burden of digning penance/ and after long time giving the oil of indulgence which greatly he desired. I laud and glorify the lord god creator and redemptor of mankind for thy great charity by the which man marvelously created/ more marvelously thou would him reform/ & where as than we being thine enemies/ & wicked death had taken lordship over us al. Thou hast remembered the bowels of thy mercy and thou hast behold from the high habitation of thy glory unto this weeping valley of misery/ and hast seen thaffliction of thy people to be great upon the earth/ the grievous burden of the children of Adam. Therefore thou were touched withinforth with the sweetness of charity and thou died put in thyself to think on us with cogitations of peace & redemption/ for why when that the fullness of time was come/ thou came to visit us shining from above. And the desires of prophets by the exhibition of incarnation taken thou didst fulfil it in appearing god and man. blessed be thou therefore O holy father of heaven that wouldest not spare thine only beloved son eternal god with the to send him down to this miserable world to take flesh and blood of a virgin to redeem man. blessed be thou oh holy ghost for that thou gavest counsel of the incarnation of the son of god/ and of the redemption of mankind/ and wrough test the mystery of the incarnation of thou said son of god in the body of a virgin. blessed be all the holy trinity in whom was one counsel/ one will/ one charity/ & one operation in the high mystery of man's redemption all be it the second person in deite only took our said humanity on him/ wherefore oh sweet son of god blessed be thou that of great pity/ compassion/ and of excellent charity inclined thyself so benygnely to descend from the throne of god/ and from the heart of the father to this valley of misery for us to be incarnate & to take flesh and blood of the sweet virgin marry the holy ghost gathering together the clean and pure drops of blood of her virginal body/ forming therewith the precious body of thine humanity/ fullfyllynge the holy soul & blessed body of the said virgin marry superhaboundauntly with incomparable gladness and exultation in the time of thy holy and clean conception/ & likewise in thy pure and chaste temporal nativity. A. / for anon at thy beginning in thy tender age when thou heard say & understood that there was god/ anon thou were full busy and fearful in observation and keeping of the health of thy soul/ and when thou herdest fully that the same god was thy maker & judge of all thy works/ inwardly thou loved him/ & dread greatly in thy mind least thou should offend him in word or deed/ and after that when thou herdest that he had given law & precepts to the people/ and that he had showed many marvels to them thou purposed steadfastly in thy mind to love no thing but him/ & than all worldly things were wonderful bitter to thee/ and after this hearing that the same god would redeem the world/ and would be born of a virgin/ Ibidem such charity hadst thou to him in thy heart that thou thoughtest no thing but god/ and thou willed no thing but god/ & as much as thou might thou withdrewest thyself fro the presence and speech of thy parents and friends/ Ibidem & thou gave of thy goods as moche as thou might to the poor and needy people/ reserving of them full little to thyself to find the in scarcete meet/ drink/ and cloth/ no thing pleased the but only god/ Ibidem thou willed ever in thy heart to live to the time of his nativity/ if it might so happen thou might be made an unworthy handmaid to the mother of god. I laud and honour the. O marry virgin of virgins that hast not seen before the none like to thee/ ne to have any such following after thee/ that first of all in the world among women hast vowed the vow of chastity and offered thereby a glorious gift to god/ when thou had it of no creature by learning/ ne by word ne by example/ thou were not taught to do so/ & thou so ornate and beawtyfyed with that virtue of chastity and with all other virtues thou pleased god most highly giving example of good living to all other. And when the time came in which after the consuetude virgins were presented in to the temple/ thou were there among them for the obedience of thy parent's/ thinking in thyself that no thing was impossible to god. And for as much as he knew that thou desired no thing ne willed no thing but only him/ he might keep the in virginity if it pleased him/ if not his will to be fulfilled And hearing all thing commanded in the temple obedyently fullfyllynge it thou returned home again. And after that holy virgin thou burned more fervently and fully in the sweet love of god than thou did before/ and daily thou were inflambed with new ardour & high desires of love/ Ibidem & therefore good lady thou enlonged thyself more than thou were wont to do fro the company of all people & were alone by thyself both day & night dreading greatly least thy mouth should speak/ or ears should here any thing against the will of thy god/ or the thine eyen should see any delectable thing. Thou were dreadful also in keeping silence least thou should be still not speaking such words which thou should speak/ & so sweet virgin thou were oft troubled in mind and fearful how thou should order thy wits and living to the pleasure of god. And after when by the aungelyke salutation thou were plenarely instruct that thou should conceive a son in thy womb by the operation of the holy ghost/ whose name should be Jesus'/ and should be called the son of god/ than therewith thou had a most fervent desire to be the mother of god/ but all be it thou knew thyself elect thereto of god/ yet thou were not therefore in mind exalted by elation/ but of the fullness of profound humility consenting unto that so high a mystery/ thou broke out words of this manner meekly saying. Lo here the handmaid of god/ befall it to me angel after thy word. And this said forthwith gods son was incarnate in thy virginal body of the holy ghost. I laud and glorify the O good lady marry clean and pure virgin that broughtest forth in to this world by most clean and chaste nativity the redemptor of the world/ and showed to the world his saviour of long time desired in the world/ and in his birth thou bore him without sorrow and sin/ in likewise as thou conceived him in all cleanness with such exultation of soul and body/ that for thabundance of joy and exultation thy holy feet felt not the ground that they stood on. And when thy sweet son our lord Ihesu christ brightness of the faders glory was born thou lapped him in poor clotheses reclining him in a rack/ for there was none other place whereupon to say him. And so the king of glory would be born poorly/ in a poor place/ and of a poor virgin/ laid on hay between two beestes for to bring us to the eternal richesse of heaven And after his birth good lady when thou beheld his pulcritude & beauty thy holy soul distilled as a sweet dew for joy/ Ibidem. thinking thyself unworthy to have such a son/ Lively vi. revela. ca p̄mo. for soothly he was so fair and delectable that who so ever beheld him he was comforted of any sorrow that was in heart. Therefore many of the jews said. Go we to see the son of Mary that we may find thereby consolation. And good lady when thou beheld & considered the places in his fair hands and pretty feet where the sharp nails should pierce through/ as thou had herd by holy prophets/ thy blessed eyen were replete with tears of weeping/ & thy virginal heart was as cloven asunder for sorrow. And when thy little sweet son beheld thy eyen full of weeping/ he was sorrowful as unto the death for the. And when thou considered the might of his deite thou were than comforted/ knowing well that thy son would have it so/ and that it was expedient. Ibidem And than thou confourmed all thy will to his will/ and so ever good lady thy joy was mixed with sorrow. blessed be thou virgin Marry mother of god for that thou nourished thy sweet son our lord with the sweet heavenly toad of thy paps bathing him/ binding him in swadles/ embracing him thy little sweet flower in thine arms and virginal bosom/ impressing oftentimes to his fair mouth sweet kisses of thy delicate mouth. And when thou died see him suffering the grievance of a young child and weeping/ thou loosed his bands laying thy fair hands and holy arms over his crib/ playing with him smiling on him/ speaking fair words to him/ and casting the fair looks of thy virginal eyen on him. THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ for that it pleased the obeying to the laws the viii. day to be circumcised and anon in thy tender infancy to be cut in thy tender flesh with a knife of stone and than to begin to shed thine innocent blood for us/ & to be ensigned with the sweet name jesus named fro the beginning by the mouth of god/ and showed by the angel/ which by interpretation is to say a saviour/ & after the effect of the same name thou decreved to save us thy people peculyer from our sins. And from thence forth thou never left to work our health. Oratio. Sweet Ihesu I beseech the for the grievous pain that thou suffered than in thy tender flesh and for thy bitter weeping to circumcise me from every spot of sin/ and grant me such grace that in a most sweet memory of love thy holy name jesus may be imprinted in my heart. Capitulum vi laud and honour be to the lord jesus that sod syrably wouldest be sought of three kings/ & so to be found of them by leading of a star/ and of them humbly to be honoured/ when most devoutly they offered to the three precious gifts/ gold/ encens/ and myrrh/ having in them divine mysteries. The gold signifying thy regal power. The encens thy divine majesty. And the myrrh of thy manhood the mortality. Oratio. benign jesus I pray y● to send me grace spyrytually to offer these gifts to the. The pure gold of perfit love. The sweet encens of devout prayer. And the clean myrrh of mortification of my frail flesh. Pater noster. ave maria. ¶ Of the presentation of our lord in to the temple/ and of the purification of our lady. Capitulum vii THankynges I yield to the lord Jesus christ ●hat in every thing wouldest ●ubmytte thyself unto the institutions of the law/ & in the arms of thy mother meekly would be born with oblations of poor men. And so thou lord of the temple wouldest be presented in to the temple/ and under the substance of our frail flesh offered thyself to god the father a wholesome sacrifice for us/ and madest the secretness of thy godhead to be showed by the old man simeon by inspiration of the holy ghost dwelling in him. I glorify the clean virgin Mary that in like wise wouldest humbly submit thyself to the law of purification when thou were no thing bound thereto for only unto this law all the women were bound that conceived a child by the seed of man. Leuiti. twelve. But thou O clean virgin conceived not thy blessed son by the seed of man/ but by inspiration of the holy ghost. And so good lady thou were all clean/ chaste/ & bright/ wherefore thou had no manner necessity of purification/ but of profound humility. Bernardus O clean virgin thou would be in this world among women by purification as one of them. And so was thy sweet son among children by circumcision as one of them. Than seen thou meek lady would be purified that hadst no need of purification how moche cause than have we great sinners to be purified and cleansed that be so defiled and cankered with sin. Oratio. Therefore make us good lady so to be purified and cleansed here in this world from every spot of sin that after this life in all cleanness we may appear before the glorious face of thy blessed son Amen. Capitulum viii THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ/ sapience of the father/ & virtue of the high god that wouldest so perfitly take all our infyrmytees/ debylytees/ & offences on thee/ excepting ignorance and sin/ so that thou would flee death & a mortal man fro place to place/ for Herod gylefully sought the & found the not/ wherefore he commanded to slay all the children in bethlehem from two year age and within that he might slay the among them. But thou the hope of pilgrims went in to egypt/ & there thou dwelled in exile unto the death of Herode/ and died suffer there great penury and poverty/ for they that should be thine would not receive thee/ but anon at thy beginning despised the. And after the death of Herod thou were called again from egypt in to Nazareth. And when thou were thither brought thou were humbly subgecte to thy parents. Capitulum ix I Laude & honour the Ihesu christ that being in age but xii years thou sat in the temple in the mids of doctors asking and hearing them/ & thou taught them so much the more when thou asked them questions prudently. And there thou raddest thine own prophecy in ysay. And thou blessed son of god began to grow in age & wisdom as god and man. And xxxiii years thou were as a servant so suffering for our health/ and thou were conversant among men/ meekly/ Justly/ sobrely/ and patiently to give us example of living. Oratio. I pray the good Ihesu for all the virtues in which thou lad thy life that thou wilt grant me thaboundaunceabundance of thy grace/ whereby I may profit in daily increasing of all virtues to the laud & glory of thy name. Capitulum ten THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ for that thou would be baptized of thy holy servant saint Iohn/ when than for thy meekness the father testified that thou were his only consubstancyall son by his voice saying/ here is my well-beloved son/ in whom I am well pleased The holy ghost also appearing on the in likeness of a dove. And this thou took not for thyself but for us to hallow thereby our baptism and to make it a wholesome sacrament of salvation for us. Oratio. Lord Ihesu I thank y● for my baptism whereby I am made a christian man/ and for that it pleased the I should be born of christian parent's/ and in the time of grace/ and for that I am instruct in the true faith of thy church/ and where as many times I have defiled my baptism by sin and wickedness good jesus I pray the to cleanse me again by the sacrament of true penance/ so that after this mortal life I may appear before thy glorious face in the same cleanness that I was in/ in the time of my baptism. Capitulum xi THankynges I yield to the lord jesus christ that anon after thy baptism were led in to desert there labouring in bitterness of abstinence/ in hunger/ in thirst/ in cold/ and heat/ & suffered there also many other infyrmytees of man/ & there thou died wake by night in prayer/ and thou that art the food of angel and man died hungres and thirst/ after that thou had fasted xl days and xl nights/ and suffered the fiend to tempt the. O good Ihesu I beseech y● for all thy holy prayers Which thou prayed the said xl days and xl nights and for all oxysons which at all times thou prayed for us in the sight of god thy father and for thy holy & perfit cogitations/ words: & holy deeds send me grace to use abstinence and vigylles/ and make me holy and perfit in all cogitations words & deeds to the laud and glory of thy name. Capitulum xii I Laude and glorify the lord Ihesu christ for all the holy works that thou wrought from the day of thy holy baptism unto thy passion/ for in that time thou gathered the covent of thy disciples/ and among them thou chase xii apostles/ that by them thou might subdue to thee/ the proud and high of this world. And in those days thou opened the bosom of thy pity and mercy to all them that came to thee/ & thou preached openly to all men remission of sins/ and entering of the kingdom of heaven. And oft thou were fatigate and weary of journeys and of cold/ and sometime of fervour of heat/ and in all this thou suffered many persecutions and slanders of the progeny of them that thou were born of/ for in their words they said against thee/ and marked wrongfully thy deeds/ laying wait on the by day and night/ coveyting continually thy death/ resisting thee/ and dyshonesting your by words/ deeds and blasphemes saying/ this man is not of god/ but a sinner & hath a fiend in him/ he maddeth in belsabub prince of fendes/ he casts out devils/ he beguileth the people/ he is a glutton/ a drinker of wine/ and the friend of publicanes. These and many other blasphemes they said of thee/ and oftentimes they would have stoned thee/ and all this thou suffered patiently/ and behad thyself before them as a man not hearing/ and as having no redargutions ne contraverces in his mouth And for as much as they were hard of heart & slothful of believe/ thou confirmed thy words with tokens following. In weddings thou turned water in to wine. Of five loves and two fishes thou fed five thousand men. Thou walked upon the see. Before thy disciples Peter james and john thou were transfigured. Thou gavest sight to blind men. Thou made the dumb to speak/ the deaf to here/ the creples to go. Thou cured lunatykes. Thou delivered possessed offends. Thou raised deed men. Thou cleansed lepers. Thou delivered a woman taken in adultery from condemnation of death. Thou cleansed Mary mawdeleyn from sin. Thou healed the woman from the flux of blood. Thou gladded the woman asking health for her daughter. The woman that was incuruate and crooked xviii. years thou raised up right. When thou were weary of thy journey sitting and resting on the wells side to the woman talking with thee/ thou gavest her knowledge of the and of herself. And in thy predication thou stirred the heart of a woman with thaboundaunceabundance of thy grace/ that she cried in the mids of the people & said. blessed be the womb that bore thee/ and the paps that gave the suck. ¶ Of the entering of our lord Ihesu in to Iherusalem/ and of his last souper. Capitulum xiii blessed be thou lord Ihesu christ for the most holy tears of weeping which thou wept at the monument of Lazar/ and upon the city of Iherusalem and for all the weepings that ever thou wept. And for thy humble & meek entering in to Iherusalem/ when thou sat on an ass before five days of Ester/ for thou came as a paschal lamb to be offered the sixth day for our sins/ when the hebrewe people met with the with flowers and palms crying and saying. blessed be he that cometh in the name of the lord. And not long after the night before thy passion thou made thy last souper with thy disciples/ saying to them these words. One desire is which effectually I have desired to eat this paschal supper w̄● you/ that is plainly to say. I have fervently desired to give you mine own body and blood/ and to feed you therewith before I suffer death for you. Capitulum xxvi BEdemptour of mankind Ihesu christ I laud and honour the that when the time of death was come thy blessed eyen appeared all deadly/ the cheer of thy visage was all wailing & lamentable/ thy mouth opened/ thy teeth appearing white/ thy tongue all bloody/ thy belly cleaved to thy back all consumed fro moistness as though thou had no bowels/ all thy body pale and wan by reason of flowings out of blood/ thy hands and feet greatly swollen by straining & nailing to the cross/ thy here and beard reed with blood & clotted. And than for the great anguish of death of the party of thy manhood thou cried to thy father saying. O father in to thy hands I betake my spirit. Lively pmm; oh revela. beat Brigitte. ca x. H. Than the virgin thy mother hearing these words as most sorrowful mother/ all the membres of her body trembled and quoke/ and ever after whiles she lived as oft as she remembered these words/ it swooned in her eeres as present and fresh to her hearing. And than good Ihesu when death came/ whereby thy heart for violence of dolours should break in sunder all thy body trembled/ and a little lifting up thy heed thou inclined it on thy shoulder/ Ibidem thy hands withdrew themself a little from the place of perforation/ & than thy feet sustained moche of the weight of thy body/ Ibidem. I thy fingers and arms somewhat extended themself & strongly strained themself upward to the tree/ and with such bitter dolours thy heart brake in sondee/ and thy holy soul departed from thy blessed body and with the godhead went down to hell/ and breaking up the gates of death took out all holy souls which thou had thus redeemed setting them in the felicity of paradise. And in the day of thine ascension thou presented them whom thou had bought with thy precious death to thy holy father of heaven. And thou good jesus hinge on the cross naked and so poor and needy that thou had not whereon to recline thy heed but at the last thou reclyned it on thy shoulder for four causes. One was that thou might give a kiss to thine espouse holy church & to show her that all the wrath of thy father was mitigate & peasyfyed by thee. The second was to ask a reclinatory in the heart of man. The third thou reclyned thy heed on thy shoulder as saying What should I have done more for the than I have done/ show me for I am ready yet to do it for the & to help the. The fourth as though thou said/ trust verily in me/ for that thou can not do I may do it for thee. And in thy death good Ihesu creatures having no reason wailed for thee/ for why/ stones broke/ monuments opened/ & many bodies of holy men that were deed did rise. The veil of the temple did break fro the highest part unto the ground And the son as sorrowing for the withdrew his light that all the world was dark. O ingratituding of reasonable man that can not sorrow for thy passion/ for whom thou suffered it so paynfully. Oratio. For this dolorous passion & death Ihesu I beseech the to be merciful to me in the dreadful hour of my death/ & grant me right mind & speech to that last end of my life/ & that I may have more mind of the & of thy passion than of the dolours & pains that than I shall suffer/ & commending my soul to thy blessed hands thou wilt receive her whom thou hast bought to the glory that hath none end. Capitulum xxvii THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ for that it pleased the to hang iii hours miserably deed on the cross/ likewise as thou hinge iii hours a live in horrible torments on the cross/ & that it pleased the to suffer thy holy side to be opened with a spear that blood and water plenteously ran out. And than were the gates of heaven opened to us/ which fro the time that Adam had sinned to that hour were continually spared against us. And as our first mother Eve was formed of the side of Adam sleeping in paradise so our chaste mother holy church good jesus of thy side which art the second Adam hanging deed on the cross was formed/ & all the sacraments of the same our said good mother of thy foresaid precious wound took all their strength and virtue. And where as by the transgression of our first parents Adam and Eve all we were the children of perdition. So by the sweet Ihesu the second Adam by thy passion and the sacrament of baptism we be made the children of adoption And by the merits of the same passion with help of the sacraments of holy church thy chaste espouse our good mother/ we trust steadfastly to be the children of salvation. O sweet Ihesu heartily I pray the that the merits of thy precious wound/ with the help of the said blessed sacrament may open the gates of heaven to me that after this mortal life I may have free entering there to dwell with the for evermore. THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ for that thou were taken down of the cross by the busy labour of thy friends joseph & Nychodeme/ and thy sorrowful mother received the on her lap with full bitter weeping/ where thou lay as a man all to drawn and torn in every member so piteously dysfygured that thou were more like a leper than a clean man/ and thy deed eyen were all bloody/ Lively p̄mo revela. ca x. ● thy mouth cold as ice/ thine arms were so stiff/ cold/ and spread abroad as thou hinge on the cross/ that thy mother and friends aforesaid had great business to bring them down to thy belly/ and thy woeful mother wiped and dried thy bloody wounds with a clot/ and closed thy mouth and eyen which were open by death/ and this done thy wounded deified body was lapped in a clean sudary and dressed with odoramentes/ Ibidem and laid and buried in the low place of the heart of the earth. Capitulum xxix THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ that the third day died rise from death glorified in body and soul with thy godhead/ appearing to thy blessed mother as we meekly may imagine/ and also to Mary mawdeleyn. And thou met with the women coming from the monument saying to them. All hail you. And they came to the laying hands on thy feet/ & also the same day of thy resurrection thou appeared to two disciples going to Emaus/ and they knew the in breaking of breed. And again thou entered to thy disciples the gates being shit and said. Peas be to you. I am dread you not/ and before them thou did eat part of a roasted fish/ and of a honey comb. And at the see Tibertadis thou showed thyself to thy disciples/ and breed and fish which thou had taken of them thou delivered to them/ and full friendly thou comyned with them/ and specially with Peter that had denied thee/ And after viii days again thou appeared to thy disciples and gavest them thy peas/ and thou comforted Thomas hard of believe/ by showing of thy wounds to him. THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ/ for all that ever thou died fro the day of thy glorious resurrection unto the day of thy marvelous ascension/ for fro that day oftentimes thou appeared to thy disciples/ & to other thy faithful friends/ friendly comforting them of the sorrow and heaviness which they took for the in thy passion/ & conferming them in thy faith/ hope/ and charity. And last of all thou ascended on the mount of Olyuete/ and lifting up thy hand thou gave them thy divine benediction/ & in the sight of all that were there thou were lift up in to hevenwhere thou showed all thy wounds and victory to the sight of thy father/ & sitting at his right side coomnipotent and coeterne thou were crowned with glory and honour. Capitulum xxxi THankynges I yield to the lord Ihesu christ that after ten days of thine ascension sendest down the holy ghost after thy promise to thy disciples/ in likeness of tongues of fire brenning/ whereby they were so illumyned with grace that with their mouths in the tongues of all nations they preached the law of thy brenning charity/ whereof all the people marveled. And conferming the words of their doctrine by open miracles they converted innumerable people to thy faith/ so that Peter in one day converted three thousand from their error. Oratio. benign Ihesu I pray the to send me grace of the holy ghost/ and his sweet consolation in all my works with the blessed gifts of him/ whereby I may lead here an acceptable life unto thy pleasure/ that I may thereby obtain the joy and glory that never shall have end.
