THe ancient acquaintance madam between us twain  
The familiarity the former dalliance.  
Causyth me that I can not myself refrain:  
But that I must write for my pleasant pastance.  
Remembering your passing goodly countenance.  
your goodly port your beauteous visage.  
ye may be counted comfort of all courage.   

¶ Of all your feturs favourable to make true description  
I am insufficient to make such enterprise.  
For thus dare I say without tradition.  
That dame menolope was never half so wise.  
yet so it is that a rumer beginneth for to rise.  
How in good horsemen ye set your hole delight.  
And have forgotten your old true loving knight.

Transending pleasure surmounting all disport.

These feverous axys the deadly woe & pain.  
Of thoughtful hearts plunged in distress.  
refreshing minds the aprell shower of rain.  
Condute of comfort and well most sovereign.  
herber enverdured continual fresh & green.  
Of lusty summer the passing goodly queen.

your ruddies with ruddy rubies may compare.  
Sapphire of sadness enuayned with India blue.  
The pullyshed pearl your whiteness doth declare.  
Dyamand pointed to raze out heartily care..  
Geyne surfetous suspect the Emeraud commendable.  
Relucent Smaragd Object Imcomperable.   

¶ encleared mirror and perspective most bright.  
illumined with feturies far passing my report.  
Radiant Esperus star of the cloudy night.  
Lode star to light these lovers to their port.  
gain dangerous storms their anchor of support.  
Their sail of solace most comfortably clad.  
which to behold maketh heavy hearts glad.   

¶ Remorse have I of your most goodlyhod  
Of your behaviour curtes & benign.  
Of your bownte & of your womanhod.  
which maketh my heart oft to leap & spring.  
And to remember many a praty thing.  
But absens alas with trembling fere & dread.  
Abashyth me albe it I have no need.   

¶ you I assure absens is my foe.  
My deadly woe my painful heaviness.  
And if ye list to know the cause why so.  
Open mine heart behold my mind express.  
I would ye could/ then should ye see masters  
how there nys thing that I covet so fain.  
As to embrace you in mine arms ●wayne.

GO pytyous heart razed with deadly wo.  
pierced with pain bleeding with wond smart  
Bewail thy fortune with veins wan & blue.  
O fortune unfrendly fortune unkind thou art.  
To be so cruel & so overthwart.  
To suffer me so careful to endure.  
That where I love best I dare not dyscure.  
¶ One there is & ever one shallbe.  
For whose sake my heart is sore diseased.  
For whose love welcome disease to me.  
I am content so all parties be pleased.  
yet & God would I would my pain ● eased.  
But fortune enforsyth me so carefully to endure.
