The Places Of Holy Scripture/ which make for the declaration of the lords Prayer/ commonly called the Pater noster. Of the Prayer. Axe/ and it shallbe given you. Seek/ and ye shall find. Knock/ and it shallbe opened unto you. For who soever asketh receiveth and he that seeketh/ findeth/ and to him that knocketh/ it shallbe opened. Matthew seven. b jeremis xxix c. john xvi c. And when thou prayest/ thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues/ & in the corners of the streets/ to be seen of men. Verily I say unto you/ they have their reward. But when thou prayest/ enter into thy Chambre/ and shut thy door to thee/ and pray to thy father which is in secret: and thy father which seeth in secret/ shall reward thy openly. And when ye pray/ babble not much/ as the heathen do: for they think that they shallbe heard for their moche babblings sake. Be not ye like them therefore. For your father knoweth whereof ye have need/ before ye ask of him. After this manner therefore shall ye pray. Our father which art etc. Matthew vi. b. Likewise the spirit also helpeth our weakness. For we know not what we should desire as we ought: nevertheless the spirit itself maketh intercession mightily for us with unoutspekeable groanings. How be it he that searcheth the heart knoweth what the mind of the spirit is: for he maketh intercession for the saints/ according to the pleasure of God. Romanorum eight d. Believe me the time cometh that ye shall neither upon this montein nor at jerusalem worship the father. The time cometh and is now already/ that the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the father will have such to worship him. Wherefore if GOD so Cloth the Grass/ which is to Day in the Field/ and to morrow shallbe cast into the furnace/ shall he not much more do the same unto you/ o ye of little faith? Two things will I require of thee/ that thou wilt not deny me before I die. Remove from me vanyce and lies: give me neither beggary nor riches/ only grant me a necessary living. Lest if I be to full I deny thee/ and say: what fellow is the Lord? And lest I being constrained thorough poverty/ fall unto stealing/ & for swear the name of my God Proverb xxx a If riches increase/ set not your heart upon them. Psal. lxi. b. And forgive us our trespasses. It is I/ It is I only/ that for mine own self sake do away thine offences/ & forget thy Sins: so that I will never think upon them. Esay xliij d. As for thine offences/ I drive them away like the Clouds/ and thy sins as the mist. Turn the again unto me/ and I will deliver the. Esay xliiij d The lord is full of compassion and mercy/ long suffering and of great goodness. He will not alway be chiding/ neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins/ nor rewarded us according to our wickedness. For look how high the heaven is/ in comparison of the earth/ so great is his mercy also towards them that fear him. Look how wide the East is from the West/ so far hath he set our sins from us. Yea like as a father pitieth his own children/ even so is the Lord merciful unto them that fear him: For he knoweth whereof we be made. He Remembreth that we are but dust. Psalm. cij. a. Shame not to confess thine error/ & submit not thyself unto every man/ because of sin. Eccle. four d. If we say that we have no sin/ we deceive ourselves/ and the truth is not in us. But if we knowledge our sins/ God is faithful and lust to forgive us our sins/ and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned/ we make him a liar/ and his word is not in us i john i Who can say: my heart is clean/ I am innocent from sin? What is man/ that he should be unclean/ what hath he which is born of a woman/ whereby he might be known to be righteous. Behold/ he hath found unfaithfulness among his own saints: yea the very heavens are unclean in his sight. How moche more than an abominable & vile man which drinketh wickedness like water? job four b xu b xxv b. Who can tell how oft he offendeth? Oh clence thou me from my secret faults. Psal. xviij b. I turned me unto God the lord for to pray & make mine intercession/ with fasting/ sackcloth & ashes. I prayed before the lord my God & knowledge/ saying: O lord/ thou great & fearful God/ thou that keepest covenant and mercy with them which love the and do thy commandments. Dan ix a. Therefore I confessed my sin unto thee/ & hid not mine unrighteousness. I said/ I will knowledge mine offence/ & accuse my self unto the Lord/ and so thou forgivest me the wickedness of my sin. Psalm. l. a. As we forgive them that trespass against us. If you forgive other men their trespasses/ your heavenly father shall also forgive you. When thou offerest thy gift at the alter/ & there remember'st that thy brother hath aught against the. Leave there thine offering before the ally/ and go thy way first and reconcile thyself to thy brother/ and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art in the way with him/ least that adversary deliver the to the judge/ and the judge deliver the to the minister/ and than thou be cast into prison.
