¶ The Copy of the letter following which specifieth of the greatest and marvelous visyoned battle that ever was seen or heard of  
And also of the letter that was sent from the great Turk unto our holy father the pope of Rome   depiction of cavalry battle  depiction of letter being delivered 
¶ The Copy of the letter how that the most marvelous and wonder full field was foghten/ which of late hath been seen in the land of Bergame..  
¶ Also the copy of the letter that the great Turk sent to our holy father the Pope.   

Bartholomeus de Clereville to his beloved friend the lord of veronoys hunfray bon messenger. Salute  
NAt long agone it hath been seen in afelde in land of Bergame/ & duryngly perceived three or iiij. times in a day out of a certain wood or forest is come a great company of men of war on foot/ to the number of xii. M. in goodly array/ under the obeysans or commandment of u noble captains of the which each of them were accompanied with v. M. men of war well appointed on their right side/ & on their left side they were accompanied with an innumerable company of men of war on light horses. Between these men of war that be on horseback or on foot in goodly array was a great number of bombards cour●a●s/ slyngis and other great pieces of artylery And against this goodly host before named appeared another more goodlier stronger/ richer/ and in noble array far passing & exceeding the other noble company/ accompanied with seemly men and noble captains richly beseen as noble of birth/ the which ij. noble parties held speech with each other & within a little while after come out of the wood before named with great triumph three of four men on horseback/ and because that these forenamed personages ware or seemed to be appointed like noble princes therefore they ware taken in sight als royal kings/ the which ware accompanied with one person right triumphantly. Riding before them excelling all the other and could not of no beholders be ymagened what man's person this might be/ but the other did him great honour and reverence. This same and self parson went witht another ꝑsonage that abode him on the way to speak with him the which seemed to be known for a king accompanied with a great number of many noble princes and lords richly beseen/ but they that seemed to be next unto his person they seemed better to be ambassadors than other men within a little while after this king gave a marvelous spytfull regard showing that he was very angry and unpatient be his countenans/ drawing of his gauntlet of steel & with an yrful countenance casted it up into the air in token of battle. when he had so done with great haste he returned unto his army where he had a marvelous goodly company standing in a noble array ready to embatayle with their enemies than was there herd a great noise of trumpets/ clerons tromles with other instruments/ & an orryble voice of artelery in such manner that it seemed to be the noise of hell the which was very fearful. Also there was seen a great many of banners & standards pight in the field right rich to behold on both parties/ & than was there foghten a field or battle the most cruel that might be thought he man's mind the which is not well to be believed so marvelously as it was done an half hour after that all things had been done & everich departed there aware of us some bolder one than another that had beholden this great battle or foghten field & went to the forenamed place for to behold & see whether they could see or find any thing or token left behind of them that had foghten that marvelous field & when they come to the place before named there they see so many & innunerable number of swine that they marveled sore of that wonderful sight these swine abode there but a little while in the place where the foghten field had been/ but they departed into the forenamed wood or forest & ware no more seen Master augustyne bienuenu & I Bartholomeus decleremont with many more other gentlemen have been at the forenamed place & seen all these forenamed things when altogeder was done & ended there was none other thing jest but the foot steps of men & horses with foroughes of veins & carts/ & the trees sore bront and torn asunder with the fire of their ordinance or artillery that had been shoot thorough. I show you plainly lord unfray that he alone aught not to be afraid that hath seen this/ but also they that here of it/ I ensuere you that this is as true as god is in heaven that created man of earth in every word as I do write. and I certify you that some of them that have seen this be fallen into a great sickness & in peril of death for great fear/ And I would write other things to you but this is so marvelous & fearful that I to you no thing elliss do uryte at this time/ but that I me to you recommend in my hertyest manner.. & c..

The Copy of the letter that was sent from the great Turk unto our holy father the pope of Rome  
MArboryn Ramosyn son of the great king Olifernes be the grace of the great god Mahoun de descended of the high line captain of Tartaryne Baron of Turkey/ prince of the hebreus. Emperor of parygonne of the lands of hungary and of wale ricque/ of the land of Sury unto paradise terrestre. atchever of Constantynople/ and of the christian lands give knowledge unto the great pressed of Rome that we have understand that you and your young king will war upon us through the brothers request of the Rhodes/ but we believe not that the great god hath given your so moche power/ wherefore we command you to oversee this letter and turn from your great folisshenes/ and cause for to seize the four knights of the Rhodes/ that is to understand Amaxqueron/ Potell/ Prophamne/ and Gerson/ or else we will come and visit you with lxvi noble kings of ours/ and will do with your temple of Rome as we have done with saint Sophys temple at Constantynople and from thence unto the count of Synay & in many other places through the help that we have of our great god mahounde Also we sand word unto your allied young king that we will strike of his heed in the best cite of his royalme. & because ye should knouwe that we be able enough there to we sand you here three gifts the first is plate gold/ the second is cloth of gold/ the third is rich orient pearls with precious stones. and as for this time present/ no more to you butt the great god Mahonde keep and preserve you
