WHere at this present parliament begon at London the third day of Nouembre in the .xxi. year of the riegne of our most dread sovereign lord the king, & from thence adjourned to westmistre, & there holden & prorogued by diuers and sundry prorogations, & yet continued. It is ordained & provided amongs other thiges that Bochers should sell by weight beeff / and pork / for a half penny the pound, and Moton and veal for a half penny and half farthynge the pound, as by the same act more at large is contained For as much as the Bochers of the said city of London and of the suburbs of the same, can not so conuenyently utter and sell their victuals, at such prices as Bochers inhabited in other partes of the realm may do, by reason that the said Bochers, of London & of the suburbs of the same, as well for meyntenaunce of their houses & servants, & bearing lots and skottes, by the ordres and customs of the said city, as for hyrynge of grounds, lying nigh the same city for the preseruacyon of their catelles till they be killed, at such high fermes and rents: ben daily put to much more higher, greater & excessyue charges, costs, and expenses then Bochers inhabited in other partes of this realm been. ¶ The king our most dread souereygne lord therfore being advertised of the premisses, considering also that in the same season of winter catels are much more derer thē they be in the summer time when they are norisshed & fed with plenry fullness of grass, and willing that the Bochers of his said city & suburbs of the same being his loving subiectes, should haue and take such reasonable garnes, by excersyse of their mysteries as they might honestly live withall according to their behauyours, and to give them courage that his said city, aswell at the assemble of this his present {per}layment now to be holden as at all other times, should be plentyfully furnished with good vytaylles, is pleased and contented by the advise of his counsel, that the Bochers of his said city of London, and suburbs of the same, from the date of this his graces proclamation, unto the feest of the Natyuite of saint Iohn baptist next coming, shall and may sell Beeff, and pork, for a half penny and half ferthyng the pound, and Motton and veal, for halfpenny & ferrhynge the pound. And that this his most gracious letters of proclamation shal be to every of the same Bochers of his said city & suburbs, sufficient warrant & discharge against his highness & all other, for selling of flesh at the prices afore limited in the same, any thing contained in the same act to the contrary therof notwithstanding. ¶ provided alway that the said Bochers se his said city, well and plentyfully provided and furnished with good and wholesome vytalles. ¶ And furthermore his hyghues straightly chargeth & commandeth the mayor and Sheryffes of his said city, that now is & hereafter shal be, that they from time to time, survey & se the same to be effectually done, as they will answer to his magesty at their vitermost perils in that behalf. ¶ And over this the kings highness straightly chargeth and commandeth that as well all Bochers inhabited in other parties of his realm, as also all Gracyers, farmers, Broggers and Breders of cattle, shall utter and sell their cattle at reasonable and convenient prices, and in such maner and form as by the said statute and by dyvers other statutes here tofore made is ordained and provided, as they will answer at their uttermost perils for the same. ¶ In witness whereof we haue caused these presentes to be sealed with our great scale.
