¶ Yet once again by the king to the Shyryues. TRusty and well-beloved we 〈◇〉 you well, and where as not only vpon good, just, & virtuous grounded and respected edified vpon the laws of god & holy scripture, by due consultacyon deliberate 〈…〉 our nobles and commons temporal assembled in our 〈…〉 of 〈…〉 of the same. We haue by good & holsom laws & statutes made for the purpose 〈◇〉, abolished, se{per}ated, & secluded out of this our realm the abuses of the bishop of Rome his authority & jurisdiction of long time vsuryed aswell vpon us and our realm as vpon all other kings & princes & their realms, like as they their selves haue confessed & affirmed, but also for asmuch as our said nobles a commons both sp●… all & tem{per}al assembled in our said court of Parliament, haue vpon like good lawful & virtuous grounds & for the public weal of this our realm by one hole assent, grafted, annexed knit, and vnied to the crown imperial of the same, the title, dignice, & style of supreme hede merth immediately under god of the church of england as we de & undoubtedly been byder to ben, which title & style, both the bishops & clargye of this our realm haue not only in conuocacion, assembled, consented, recognized, & approved laufullye & justly to appertain unto us, but also by word oath profession, & writing under their signs & seals haue confessed, ratified, coroborated, & confirmed the same utterly renounsyng al other oaths & obedience to any foreign potent are and al foreign jurisdictions & powers aswell as of the said bishop of Rome as of al other what● ever they be: as by their said professions & writings coroborated with the subscription of their names & appension of their seals more plainly appeareth. We let you wyte the calling unto our remembrance the power charge & commission given unto us of almighty god, & vpon a vehement love & affection towards our loving & faytful subiectes, perceiving rightwel what great rest quietness & tranquillity of consciens, & many fold other commodities might insurge & arise unto them, yf that the said bishops & other of the clargy of this our realm should set forth, declare & preach unto them the true & sincere word of god, & without all maner colour, dissimulation, & hipocrist manifest & publish the great & inuumerable enormities & abuses which the said bishop of Rome: aswell in the title & still, as also in authority & jurisdiction of long time vnlaufully & unjustly hath vsuroed vpon us & our progenitors & al other christen princes. Haue therfore addressed our letters unto the bishop of the dioces straightly charging & commaundinge him in the same that not only he in his own proper person, shal declare, teach and preach unto the people forthwt vpon the receipt of our said letters unto hi directed, every Sondaye & other high feast through the year, the true more & sincere word of God, and that the said same title, style & jurisdiction of supreme head appertaineth onely unto our, crown and dignity royal, likewise as the said bishop & all other the byshoppes of our realm haue by oath affirmed & confirmed by subscription of their names & setting to their seals, but also give warning, momcion. & charge, to all maner abbots, priors, deans, archdeacons, prouostes, persons, vicars, curates, and all other ecclesiastical persons with in his said dioces as well to preach, teach plublysh, and declare in all maner churches our foresaid just title, style & jurisdiction every sondaye & high feast through the year. And furthermore to monish & give commandment to all maner school masters within his said dioces to instruct and teach the same unto the children committed unto thē: as also to cause al maner prayers orasons, rubrikes, canons in mass books, and all other, books used in the churches, wherein the said bishop of Rome is name, or his presumptuous and proud pomp and authority preferred, utterly to be abolysshed, eradicate, & razed out, and his name & memory to be never more( except to his contumelye and reproach) remembered, but perpetually suppressed & obscured, and finally to desyst & leave out all such articles as be in the general sentence which is usually accustomend to be read four times in the year & do tend to the glory & advancement of the said bishop of Rome, his, name, title, or jurisdiction. whereupon we esteeming & reputing you to be of such singular & vehement zeele and affection towards the glory of almighty God, and of so faithful, loving and obedient heart toward us, as ye will not only do & accomplish, with al your wisdom, diligence and labour what so ever should or might be to the prefermente & setting forward of Gods word, but also practise, study, & endeavour yourself with al your policy, wit, power & good will to amplifye, defend, and maintain al such interest, right, title, fryle, jurisdiction, & authority, as is in ony wise apperteynyng unto us, our dignity, prerogatyue & crown imperial of this our realm, haue thought good and expedient, not onely to sygnyfy unto you by these our letters the particularities of the charge monicion and commandment given by us unto the said bishop as before is specyfyed, but also to inquire and straightly charge and command you vpon pain of your allegaunce and as ye will avoyde our high indignation & displeasure at your utter most peril, layeng a part allvayne affections, respects, or other carnal considerations, & setting onely before you re eyes the mirror of truth, the glory of God, the dignity of your souereyne lord and king, and the great concord and unite & inestimable profit and commodity that shalby the due ●ercution of the premises ensue to yourself and al other faithful and loving subiectes, ye make or cause to be made diligent search, wait, and espial in every place of your ●… ryfwyk, whether the said bishop do truly, sincerely, and without al maner cloak, colour, or dyssimulacion, execute and accomplysh our will, & commandment as is afore said. And in case ye shall bear perceive and approuably understand & know that the said bishop or ony other ecclesiastical person within his dioces doth omit & leave 〈◇〉 done ony part or parcel of the premisses, or else in the execution & setting forth of the same do coldly and vnfaynedly use ony maner sinister addition, wrong interpretacion, or painted colours: Than we straightly charge & command you, that forthwith vpon ony such default, negligence, or diunimulacion by the said bishop or ony other ecclesiastical person of his dioces committed, contrary to the true tenor, meaning & effect of the said charge by us to him appoynted afore said, ye do make indelaydly & with al speed and diligence declaration & aduertysement to us and our coumsel of the said default, & of the behaviour, maner and fashion of the same. And for asmuch as we vpon singular trust & assured confidence, which we haue in you, & for the special love and zeal, which we suppose and think ye bear toward us & the public & common weal, vnyte & tranquillity of this our realm, haue specially elected & chosen you among so many for this purpose, & haue reputed you such men as unto whose wisdom, discretion, truth, and fidelyte, we might commit a matter of such great weight, moment, and importance, as whereupon the vnyte, rest, and tranquillity of our realm doth consist & is stablished. Yf ye should contrary to our exspectacion and trust, which we haue in you, and against your duty and allegaunce toward us neglect, be slack, or omit to do with al your diligence, dexterite and wisdom, whatsoever shalbe in your power, for the due and true performance and execution of our mind and pleasure to you before declared in this behalf, or halt, stumble, or wyncke at ony parte, or specialte of the same: be ye assured that we like a prince of iustice, will so extremely correct, & punish you for the same that al the world besides shal take by you ensample and beware contrary to their duty, oath, and allegaunce to frustrate, deceive, and to dysobeye the just and lawful commandment of their souereygne lord and prince insuch things, as the true hearty and faithful execution. whereby ye shall not onely prefer and advance the honour and glory of almighty God, and set forth the majesty and imperial dignity of your sovereign lord: but also import and bring an inestimable weal, profit, commodity, vnyte, and tranquylyte to all the public and commun state of this our realm: where unto both by the laws of God, nature and man ye be utterly, obliged and bound.
