¶ A proclamation, set forth by the kings majesty, with the assent of his dearest uncle. Edward Duke of Domerset governor of his most royal person and of his realms Dominions and subiectes Prolongacion of the formet proclamation made for the calling in of Testons. WHere as the kings most excellent majesty with thaduyse and assent of his dearest uncle Edward duke of Somerset, governor of his royal person, protector of his highnes realms, dominions, and subiectes and the test of his graces counsel. hath heretofore by proclamation bearing date the .x. day of April in the second year of his reign, given notice & rommaundement to almaner his loving subiectes and others haunting his majesties realms or domimons that from the last day of the month of Decembre last passed forwards, that pieces of .xij. d. commonly called Testons should no longer be current nor pass in payment or receipt as his graces coin, but be taken only for Bullion: whereunto his majesty was moved vpon such considerations as in the said former proclamation was more at large expressed. For asmuch as it hath sithence come to his highnes knowledge, that by reason of the great nombre of the same Testons, which at this present are dispersed abroad in so many mens hands. besides no less caut●le & policy used cuen hard vpon the day, by diuers making hole payments in the said coin, & specially for that those that haue plenty of other money, take unreasonable allowance of the poorer sort which is most to be relieved for the exchange of those Testons, much detriment and inconvenience should ensue to the possessors of the same, unless a remedy by prolonging of the term then appoynted for their calling in were provided: His majesty therfore by the aduise aforesaid, is most graciously pleased, willeth, & commandeth that the term of the calling in of the said pieces of .xij. d. commonly called Testons, shal be yet further prolonged and extended to the first day of May next coming after the date hereof. And that during al the mean space, thesaid Testons( being of his highnes standard) shalbe current through out his highnes realms and dominions after no less value and sort, then yf the said former proclamation for their calling in had not ben made. provided always that after thesayed first day of May, thesayed Testons shall no longer bee currant, but be used in such sort, as that former proclamation doth specify, this present prolongacion notwith standing. And further his majesty exhorteth all his said loving subiectes, that like as his highnes for their benefit was moved to revoke thesayed Testons, and for their more commodity is pleased to prolong the day of their calling in: so they also in the mean while will haue the better regard and hede that such Testons as they take, be of his majesties standard and coynt, seeing the nombre to be such of false and foreign Testons as are now so dispersed abroad, to the deceit & loss of the takers: and that during this time of respite, they endeavour themselves from day to day by portions and smaller sums, to bring in such Testons as they shall h●●e into any his majesties mints, as shall best serve for their purpose, there to receive the just exchange of the same: So as by lyngeryng or defertyng of the bringing in of such Testons until thesayed first day of May, limited by this peremptory admonition, their negligence be not cause that when the mints( if the whole mass come in at once) are pestered, their exchange shall not be so redy unto them as otherwise it should. moreover, because his majesty most graciously above other things tendryng the relief of the poter sort of his loving subiectes, doth considre, that their need or vnhabilitie to forbear by a space( be it never so small) thexchaunge of their Testons at his graces mints, might be an occasion that others of the richer sort with whom they should perchance be driven to bargain for other money in lieu of their Testons, should then exact or take of them vnresonably for thexchange( as it hath camē to his highnes knowledge that somme al redy haue not ben ashamed to demand and take so against all conscience and equity) His highnes therfore by thefor. and a●●●… do the straightly charge & command that no
