By the king and queen, WHere it is of late brought to the knowledge of the king and queens majesties, that many wicked and ungodly persons, some of purpose to stir unquietness and seditions amongs their Maiestyes good & faithful subiectes, and others because they may thereby make their own gains & utter the corn & other things at the greater prices, haue contrary to their bound dewtyes spread and caused to be spread rumours, of the decreynge or fall of the coygne or moneys commenlye called testous of which rumour thus maliciously and vnmercyfully begon & spread abroad much contention hath grown amongst their majesties good subiects, the prices of grain and other things be uncharitably enhanced and many other great inconveniences haue arisen, and greater be like to arise yf speedy remedy be not provided herein. like as their majesties be heartily sorry that any man to whom god hath given abundance of things, should in this vnmercyfull sort in this time of darthe wherewith it hath pleased almighty God, presently to plague the world, for the sins & wickedness therof seek vpon this pretence their own gains with so great an injury and oppression of ther poor needy neigh bours. So doth their majesties by this their proclamation straitelye charge and command al their subiects of what sort or degree soever they be, that they and every of them in all their traffics, byinges and sellynges do quietly and obediently receive utter and pay aswell the said coin or money called testons as all other coygnes or moneys, of what sort soever the same be, according to there just valuations heretofore by their majesties authority proclaimed & published, vpon pain of their majesties utter indignatyon and most sharp punishment by imprisonment and fine at their majesties pleasure. And their majesties further straightly charge and command upon like pains al Maiors, Baylytes, Sheryfes Iustyces of peace, and all other officers in all the counties, cities, towns, and other places of this there majesties realm, as well within liberties as without, that they and every of them, take diligent care and foresee within the limits of their charges and offices that this their majesties pleasure be in al things well obeied and observed, And that the markets in all places, may be from time to time sufficiently furnished with corn and other necessary victuals, causing such as shal be found disobedient or offenders in any the premisses to be forth with committed to ward, and further ponished according to their majesties laws, and theffect of this their proclamation, not failing as ther majesties doth specially trust them, and as they will answer for the contrary at their uttermost perils.
