By the queen. THe queens highness vpon many great considerations for the benfyte of her common weal, doth will and straigtlye command al maner of persons of what condition soever they be, otherwise then such as be or shalbe excusyd by unfeigned sickness, or licensed by thauctoritie of her majesty or her progenitors: to abstain from killing, dressing, or eating of any flesh, vpon all such usual fasting dayes, and namely the time commonly called the Lent, vpon pain of her majesties indignation and imprisonment during her majesties pleasure, and such further fine as therefore shall seem meet. FOR the better execution whereof, her majesty chargeth all Iustices of peace, and all Maiors ▪ bailiffs, and head officers of Cities and towns corporate, specially of her Cities of London, and westminster, vpon proof by two sufficient witnesses before them had, to committe the offenders thereof to prison, there to remain during her majesties pleasure, and to make fine for the same accordynglye. AND finally her majesty willeth and requireth all such as shalbe vpon necessity and just cause licensed as above is said, that as they regard her majesties favour, they will use the same as modestly and secretly as they may, both to avoyde excess and evil example. given at our palace of westminster the .vij day of February the first year of our reign. God save the queen. Imprinted at London by richard jug, and john Cawodde, printers to the queens majesty. Cum privilegio Regiae Maiestatis.
